20XE big end shells, have i the right ones??
bought some bearing shells a while ago for the rebuild, now getting round to reassembling the bottom end. the shells are the same standard size as the old ones but are slightly narrower and both parts of the shells ahve oil holes??
Stamped on the new ones is
old ones are aftermarket i believe as they have no GM mark on them
are the news going to be OK?
Early XE engine`s had (I think) a 1mm wider shell than the later XE engines.
will it matter if use the narrower shells, bearing in mind the engine will recieve further work in the future, ie cams and TB's
the holes in both halves thing is normal. aslong as they are good quality lead/copper bearings (and not crappy tin/lead) then being slightly thinner doesnt matter.
As above really.
So long as they are good quality shells you won`t have a problem with them.
how do i know if they are tin or the lead copper type?
yeah has GM stamped on them with the numbers as in the first post
if you look at it side on, there will be a sandwhich of 3 metals, the centre being copper, and thus gold coloured.
