My Mk2 Astra SXi (18SE) popped a con-rod through the block a few weeks back so it's been new engine time for me. I picked up another 18SE from the breakers yard and it's been dropped in for me by a mechanic mate as I'm currently away from home.
He's just called to tell me that the new engine hasn't got the gubbins that allow it to connect up to my oil cooler. He says that normally you can just transfer the bits (which apparently go up the hole the oil filter screws into) from one engine to the other but the ones on my old engine are siezed and he can't get it all off.
He's suggesting just running without the oil cooler, claims it will be fine and only makes a few degrees difference in oil temps. What do you guys think, (bearing in mind the car isn't used for towing across the Sahara or anything, but does get the occasional 'hard' drive on the b-roads!) will it be ok running with no cooler?
