I have a vauxhall nova 1.4SR, its a 1992 (k reg) with just over 100,000 on the clock, but im sure it is relatively unabused as i have had the engine apart and there is no wobble in the pistons, scoring in the bores or anything like that.
I've recently installed a piper blueprint camshaft, and since installation and carb rejetting (of a weber 32/34 DMTL) I've noticed a few problems. For the first ten minutes of running the engine, i get a clicking/tapping noise that sounds like its coming from the cylinder head - im guessing its one of my hydralic adjusters playing up and causing the cam to not be in contact with one of the rockers for the whole of its duration, causing the clicking as it contacts.
Now, i also have another problem - since this has started happening, my oil light has started flashing on and off. At first, it was only when going round right hand corners - the light would come on under heavy cornering and stay on for a couple of seconds after cornering, but as time has gone on - the light now comes on whenever there is any lateral force, eg - if i accelerate hard, brake hard or corner hard in either direction the light will come on.
Could this be a contributing factor to the hydralic valve adjuster playing up? or vice versa?
The oil is less than 2000 miles old, but did put it in before the cam change and engine rebuild i did. It was engine flushed when the oil was changed.
There is a tad too much oil in there - could this be causing it?
It didnt start making the sound as soon as i put the new cam in - was about 2 weeks afterwards that it started the tapping.
I wanna get the head off and have a look, but i dont wanna pay for new bolts! Are there any other bolts i can use that do not need replacing every time i remove them?
haha, im such a feckin dumbarse - sorry guys i cant believe i just asked that question. I guess ill just get another can of engine flush, and if that dont sort it ill get the oil pump off. Any brands you would recommend for this application? used STP last time
