Well i'm getting REALLY sick of my 1.4 engine!
Its still dripping oil, its now just reaching 80000 miles and i don't want it anymore!
I'm really warming to the idea of plopping in a 1.6 16V engine out of a SXi Astra.
Everything i read says you just need the engine and ECU (driveshafts and gearbox are apparently the same)
Then its just a case of disconnect everything from my 1.4 lift it out, plop the 1.6 in its place (after removing the air compressor from the 1.6 to ditch the AC) and connect up everything again With all the same connectors
i'm told these engines are exactly the same externally and after looking at my mates 1.6 Astra i agree.
am i nuts for wanting to jump the 200cc's?
the engine i've sourced has only 20K on it (genuine, cars a 52plate writeoff)
should i get the gearbox and driveshafts while i'm there?
Should i be trying to get the loom also?, i don't think i'll need it.
will getting the ECU recoded to my key be easy enough?
Anything else i'm missing/forgotten?
is it really this easy?, ideally i would like to start the job and have the new engine in and running that night?, i have someone to help me that has really good knowlage of vx engine swaps.
Cheers for any help offered
