ok iv got a small block 16v on standard cams but with kent pulleys.
the timing is currently set up as in the haynes manual.
im considering fitting piper270 cams but wondered if i can use the same method in the haynes to get them in and running, or do i need a dial guage straight away?
You could just line the bottom pully up and then mark the vernier pullys and go from there. To double check it just stick a rod down no 1 spark plug hole and 'feel' for TDC.
thats the problem. the original cams are NOT set off TDC. i made that mistake and was 2 teeth out, you must use the marks provided.
what i ment was can i just use the original marks until i get get it setup with a dial gauage
inlet is, zorst is a few degrees before iirc
i did it as per standard, but you may as well get it done properly at a rolling road to see change in power. but yeah, you can just put them in as you have it now to get it running.
ye was just worried about the valves as theres bugger all clearance with those cams!
theres loads, its only gonna be 264-270 duration, you wont start to have problems till 278
