the 1800 manta box anyone got any idea on dimensions? i want to fit into an escort but cant decide on a bellhgousing or lash the manta job in there.
is it strong enough? some say yes some say no
HOW do i get around that dumb *** distributor poking out the back when i hear ,,distibutorless ingnition,, is there anything i can rob that from at the breakers to do this? im not into throwing loads of wedge at it!! there must be a simple mod??
same go,s for the x manifold any ideas? without getting the cheque book out again big style. finally what about the std injection set up do i REALLY need to go over to throttle bodys etc?
why?? i just want it standard reliable with good mpg

I can give you dims for the 1800 manta box. what do dims do you want? I have gearbox on the bench.
I would also be interested to know if there is a standard manifold that is useable for the rwd conversion and if there is a dizzyless pack that can robbed from another car? ie from the scrappies!

i am pretty sure there are parts from pug,s u can get to sort the dizzy not sure wich model also i was told a late xe engine doesnt run a dizy??? as for manifold i think i remember soemeone telling me u can ust chop the btm off a std 1 and swivel it round and re weld?? but all this was a long time ago and is y i came here seeking advise im eginin g to wonder if a single cam maybe a simple option?

ANY IDEAS ON DOING AWAY WITH THE DIZZY FOR CLEARANCE OR A CHEAPO X MANIFOLD OPTION?? OR HOW ABOUT KEEPING THE OLD INJECTION IS THAT A PROBLEM??/
Measures 180 max at any one point but with things such as reversing light switch needing clearance, I would assume 200 ave.
As for the widest point, there isn't much in it, its fairly square from bellhousing back to the selector input shaft.
Let me know if you need more on this.

No joy with cheapo manifolds. The rwd manifold needs to miss the engine mount and the fwd manifold just hasn't got enough bends in it to be an easy mod. But I'm open to instruction on this as it would save over £150! I'm no pipe bender, I just smoke em.
As far as the rear dizzy goes, its not too much of a prob for me, I just have to mod and/or replace the manta's heating fan/matrix. If I can find a dizzyless system at the scrapies this week I will nab it. Otherwise I will be looking for heater fans and housings in every car there! Apparently Mk1 Polos are a good donor for these bits. Oh, just remembered, the weird front mounted dizzy from a manta 1800 fits the 16v with a little help! Go to Manta Club for more info. I have the bits but didn't like the look of the red top being spoilt by an ugly hash up by Vauxhall!
I am staying with standard injection and ecu for now due to lack of £$€s! But it appears that TBods give much more power and responsiveness so if you have the folding......
As far as gearbox strength goes, its apparently good for plenty more bhp than a standard C20XE can give out so you should have no probs!
WELL IM HAPPY TO USE THE STD INJ SET UP TOO IT SEEMS THAT WHEN EVER U SPEAK TO SOMEONE ABOUT any ENGINE TRANSPLANT THE 1ST THING THEY DO IS THROW AWAY A PER4FCTLY GOOD SET UP THEN SPEND LOADS ON GETING NOT MUCH MORE HP THAN STD WHATS THE POINT? y they dont use the std ecu etc etc is beyond me allthough this dizzy buisness might b part of that
u meen ford 5 speed ? theres several ,,different,,types i was going to use a run of the mill sierra type 9/n it doesnt need to be from a xr4i ..i know they are availale but they are 150 notes im seeing if i can avoid that
