I've been getting a knocking noise from the rear of my car.
It seemed to happen ecery time I pulled away after breaking and was more noticeable after reversing.
I also had intermitent grinding/whining noises from the rear. I thought it might have been the 4x4 so removed fuse 19. The problem is still there.
Today I have removed the rear nearside wheel and turned the hub. The wheel locks and takes quite a bit of effort to get it to turn. Hence the knocking noise when driving. And the grinding/Whining noise is also coming from the same place.
I'm starting to think that it may be a fault with the handbrake. Does this sound likely?
If so, Does the Haynes manual cover this car in relation to the Handbrake assembly?
I would greatly appreciate any input as I need to sort this problem before next weekend as I'm driving me and my mates to the Bike show at the NEC.
Look at the inner face of the backing plate where the lever hooks up with the hand brake cable. Has the return spring snapped or streched badly due to been rusted up? Had the same thing with mine, remember to replace both of them.
