Another way to do would be to use the running gear and engine from an escort cosworth......

    Food for thought.........

You know it makes sense, easier to fit a bigger turbo, easier to get more power out of it, easier to fit a bigger intercooler, easier to blow it up

allen that last max power comment was classlmao

nah definately going with a vaux engine and looking more and more like vaux 4wd running gear aswell be fairly cheap really, pic up a cav turbo for 1500 and a decent enough astra gte for 600 so then there's just a v6 engine and turbo parts to source reckon round the 4k mark

this aint gona get blown up this is gona be properly built not like them damn vaux mechanics

    cheers

What is the reality of doing this? Is the whell base of the Mk2 Astra and Calibra pretty similar?

If the above isn;t easier, then I would certainly suggest going for a non vauxhall 4x4 system... it would be just as hard to fit as a Cossie one.

I would go for Cossie 4x4 - there should be plenty of gearbox bell-housing adapters around to fix a C20LET to it.

Get a cally 4x4 or cav.

Nick the engine, box and running gear....and cut thr floor pan out.

get your astra engine out, floorpan out.....graft the 4x4 floor pan in.

get it all jigged up.....put the turbo engine, box and running gear in.

if you use a cossy floor pan im sure youll find it hard to source one cheap.

Also youll only need one donar car if you use a vaux.

as for v6, im not sure. If you want speed....as im sure you do going for the 4x4 and all...go for the let.

i was thinking of doing this to my mark 3 but i had already had a pretty damned expensive paint job and i didnt want to risk it going all tits up...

hmmm dont really wanna go with the c20let to be honest as then the conversion would in effect be a reshelled calibra albeit in a different car, fancy a v6 to be honest andthe power they'll produce and with 4x4 i think ill have enough speed to keep me happy

V6 turbo 4x4 - be different , like you say , you'd be just re-shelling the calibra effectively - no point their as you might as well just buy a calibra ehh.
