hey guys just discovered that my engine has a small oil leak, i havn't traced it yet but my mechanic thinks it may be the head gasket. He says its nothing to be worried about its a very small leak but its just pushed me into that mood!
I don't want a 1.4 any more! I want to stick a 16XE into my car!
My mates have got them and under the bonnet is almost the exact same! except they have air conditioning.
question is if i get a 16XE from a mk4 astra how hard is the swap to perform, i mean i've had a good look and the loom e.c.t. seems to be just the same!
from what i see i would only need engine, gearbox, ECU and maybe the loom just to be sure.
next point is the aircon, is that easy to migrate over to my car, or would it be best to strip it off the engine?, i live in scotland i don't think it would see much use, and i also heard that aircon weights approx as much as a fully grown male passanger! that kind of put me off too!
anyways i'm thinking about buying an 16XE and cleaning her up over winter, removeing the EGR if i can - still keen on this idea! and generally getting it ready to plop into the car after new year!. it sounds all good to me! the 16XE also seems to be more fun to tune up.
but i would really like to hear from anyone who has done this before.
With the engine being virtually identical in every way i can't see the swap taking me and my mate more than a day to do (he has swapped many a vauxhall engine before.
Also does anyone know where i can find a good sample of the above mentioned donor engine for sale?, preferably in scotland.
i've been wanting to do the swap since the day the car arrived but this just sort of makes sense now that its going, plus i don't want to spend any cash on the 14XE engine anyway its too small.
will i need to change my suspension, or will the weight of the engine be virtually the same?
What about the brakes?
anything else you may think i have forgotten about!
My biggest issue is actually finding a donor engine, everything i hear says it needs to come from a MK4 astra and i would prefer it that way too
