Had a problem this morning with my girlfriends mk4 astra 1.4 16V, basicly the car would not go into any gear when the clutch was fully pressed in. I had to ram it into gear! Once it was in gear though the clutch seemed to behave like normal and I could get back up the drive in 1 st gear no problem - any ideas?
This is really strange now. I went out last night to see if the car has a Hydro clutch, which it does, and I thought I would just test it to see exactley whay happens....and guess what..... the clutch/gearbox work fine!?!
I can only figure now that the clutch is sticking or there is problem with the clutch release system.
It could have simply been the cogs were not lined up correctly or the clutch plate sticking to the fly-wheel.
If it happens again try putting it in gear as you gently lift the clutch, if it grates and goes in then the cogs were not lined up. I used to have to do this all the time when the syncromesh got tired on my old Escort.
