Hello everybody, hope you are all well. I have a story to tell and i'd like some advice if anyone can give it.
Firstly my trusty GTE convertible is now gone, may her new owner look after her the way i did, sob sob...... but times change so i brought myself a Calibra Turbo...... Lovely.
Well to cut a long story short i've started modding the car, as you do, and recently put on a k&N 57i Kit. The car sounded great but was a bit lumpy and would cut out when hot in tick over but in acceleration it's amazing. Thinking that this was just a minor adjustment of the airflow meter i took it down to my local Garage. The mechanic assured me that it was just a minor problem and shouldn't cost more than a ton to put on the diagnostics and sort out. However, he phones me up in the afternoon telling me that there was a couple of vacuum leaks and ht spikes and that i would need a new rotar arm, dizzy cap leads and plugs. He also told me that the bosch super 4's i put in where not suitable for this car. At this point i should have smelt a rat and told him to go and bollox but there you go. Anyway, the bill for this minor work was £230 plus vat.... I nearly fainted, i could have done the work myself for about £80. However he assured me that this would sort the problem so i thougt, just do it and get the car running sweet again. I gets the call in the afternoon saying it was ready to pick up, pays the bill on my trusty credit card and off i go.
I new there was something wrong straight away, took it up the road and it started coughing and spluttering after about 2500 revs. i carried on driving to get it up to temperature, pulled up to the lights and the car promptly cut out. I phoned the garage straigt away and he told me to check the dizzy cap incase one of the leads had come lose. It hadn't....
I took the car straight back it was coughing and spluttering, it felt like it was running on 3 cylinders when you put it under load. Absolutely f***ing livid. He charged me £270 including the vat and the car came out 10 times worse than it went in.
I was told to bring the car back on monday and he would TRY to fix it.
I took the K&N induction kit off yesterday and replaced it with the origional one, the car no longer cuts out in hot tick over. i just wish i'd done that in the start and saved myself £300 sheets.
However the car still coughs and sputters, over a certain rev range, it feels like there is no boost pressure and the car runs on 3 cylinders, i just dont know what to do. I've put the vacuum pipes back to the way they were origionally but its still ****e. i'm taking the car back tomorrow so i'll let you all know what happens... To be honest i'd be happy if he just took all his crap off and gave me my money back, but i know the car is so f***ed now it will not run right and i cant fix it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated..
my poor turbo it used to be so good, evo 2 chip 260bhp, i'd be lucky to toast a 1.3 escort at the minute....
