Well, I jet washed all the oil off.
Then I tightened the sump gasket.
Then I loosened the sump gasket, pushed the rubber in properly, then I tightened the sump gasket.
Then I went out for a quick 10minute drive. Which was fun.
Back home I could smell the oil.
I could see where it was coming from, though I wanted to deny it at first.
Yeah, it's the oil pump crank seal. Oil is ****ing out of there and centrifuging all over the place. The surface of the ring thing in there looks a bit blackened too.
I'll get a photo in a minute.
Any idea why this should leak?
The seal came with the pump, which came from Mart, who I think fitted it to an 8v engine. I've got a 16v bottom end. So maybe it's the wrong seal? And it just survived a few weeks misuse?
