I got round to fitting the C20XE into my nova GTE.
Before it went in i fitted a new water pump, cam belt, tensioner and idler rollers.
I also whipped the head off just to have a general check on condition, which looks good,so have also fitted a new head gasket and bolts, and a cam cover gasket.
It started on the second turn of the key, presumably the first attempt was getting fuel to the rail.
But it ticks over at about 2000rpm,and sometimes(not allways)hunts up to about 2250rpm and back,
I checked the throttle cable was returning to idle proper, which it was.
When i disconnect the idle control valve it does exactly the same thing,so am i right in thinking this is to blame? but why the hunting?
Other than that im well happy with, its damn quick now.
Any help/ideas welcome as i wanna get this sorted as i have a rolling road day to attend on the 16th.
Its gonna be wednesday before i can get chance to look at it now as i work 12hr shifts, and there is not a chance im messing about under the bonnet in complete darkness with a hand lamp.
I can live with high tickover for a day or two, especially when the new XE is still putting a big grin on my face!
I STILL havent drove it in the dry, cant wait for a dry road so i can get some traction in 1st and 2nd.
