Red face Belkin wireless setup on Virgin cable broadband

Hi all

Clue is in the title. I'm a self confessed imbecile when it comes to computers.

Got Virgin cable running nicely through the virgin sent modem. Wanted to go wireless.

Picked up a Belkin wireless cable router cheap 2nd hand.

Ran through the setup CD all ok. Congratulations page at the end, sorted i thought. Load up firefox and nothing. Remove the router and wire the ethernet directly from the modem and all is working.

So punch in the 192.etc.etc into firefox address line and chose to "restore factory defaults" on the Belkin router setup page just incase it was an issue with previous settings(the router is 2nd hand). Ran through the setup cd again, congratulations page. Still not working

Can anyone run me through a step by step setup guide in simple terms? I really am quite clueless when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Cheers

Re: Belkin wireless setup on Virgin cable broadband

What operating system?

Assuming XP, use the inbuilt wireless configuration rather than an aftermarket one. Start-> Control Panel-> Admin Tools-> Component Services-> Services->Wireless Zero Configuration then choose Start if it isn't already going. You should get a wireless icon in the taskbar. Double clickey then choose your network to connect to. Enter WEP/WPA key. You should be connected.

Tell us which bit you fall down at

Re: Belkin wireless setup on Virgin cable broadband

With Belkin kit you MUST use the modem to convert the pass key you entered into hexadecimal pairs and enter them into the passphrase box on both the router and the computer connecting wirelessly.
