PS3 HDD

I have heard somewhere before that the HDD in a PS3 is just a standard SATA 3GB/S connection.

How easy, if at all, would it be to upgrade my 40GB PS3 to say, a 320GB or 500GB SATA 3GB/S hard drive?

I'm not bothered about warranies and all that because it was second hand anyway...

Ta.

Re: PS3 HDD

Yup its just a standard 2.5" SATA laptop drive. You wont void the warranty changing it.

Just remove the cover on the botton (if vertical) Right side if horizontal, undo the screw and slide the catch over. then the caddy slides out, remove the screws then swap drives.

So is the OS not actually installed on the HDD?

Im not too sure what it holds, If you are talking about the XMB then no, thats part of the PS3's internal memory. Just do as the video explains to back the stuff up and I wouldnt worry about it too much.

Will do I've got a 750GB external HDD I can use to back it up

Saying that, if it doesn't work with the new HDD, I can always put the old one back

Ta for your help.

Re: PS3 HDD

Keep to a 5400rpm drive though. You can get 300gb for about 50 quid now.
