Re: quite fast broadband

One thing to note. Fair enough, it can't be too wrong when it says you've done 27mb in 10 seconds... but your current download speed may not be correct.

What can happen, is that the software (Internet Explorer, or whatever browser you may use) may lag a little, and therefore it receives a large amount of data at once. It therefore displays 1.7mb/s for example, as it has just received 1.7mb in that second... but due to the lag, that 1.7mb may have been over 3 or 4 seconds on your network... just the browser didn't catch up and received it all at once... If that makes sense...

Opera does it all the time for me. I'll be downloading a large file and I'll suddenly be getting 10.3mb/s download speeds.. but it's actually downloading at 460kb/s, just the browser unable to handle that amount of data coming through at one time, so when it finally catches it, 10.3mb has downloaded.

Re: quite fast broadband

I hate my internet connection. My router claims:

DownStream Connection Speed 6144 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 412 kbps

I partially put it down to my S***E wireless that I'm using at the moment... My bloody ethernet won't pick up a sodding IP address right now...

I'm with Sky as well. I think they get supplied from another company, which I would assume is Easynet...
