There's a weather issue and also he's not down there much this week..

I've angle ground as much of the engine bay as I can, now I need to get the wire brush doo-dah attachment on the grinder to get into those hard to reach places... then he can seam weld and etch prime the fooker.

Just waiting for a chap to get back to me about a front panel, and the fibreglass dude hasn't got back yet either... once I have these panels, he just needs to do some welding and then prep for paint...

Still reckon it'll be late May before I get the thing on the damn road.

The chances of anyone other than myself or Kirsty driving it once it's done will be dependant on how attached I am to it. I've only been really a.nal about a couple of cars so there may be a fair chance (once I've had a chance to play with it for a while)

Any handing over of keys to other folk will come with an automatic you bend it, you mend it clause. As is the norm

    Brian,

Not sure if this is who you tried but Goldsmiths in Bramford (Ipswich) are good. We paid £500 for half leather/half vinyl retrim in black and cream for a 5 door Astra including door panels. Job took about a week and was very high quality.

PS - splitter looks great on your motor - pleased you're happy with it!
In the big scheme of things, are we insignificant?

    Cheers Jo.

I did ring Goldsmiths today, was happy with prices for refurbishing a worn bolster and retrimming the rear seats using a doner set of leather, but now I have a benchmark price just wondering if anyone knew of someone more local.

Obviously Carisma would be way too expensive.

    Ian.

I always work on that rule anyway, I wouldn't treat my own car badly so always go even more carefull if it aint my own.

Only kidding anyway, wouldn't want to take the risk in someone else's pride and joy.

Lightned flywheel would be about 60 quid ish and if you cant find anywhere to do it let me know my dad has an engineering workshop and would get it done for im assuming around the 60 quid mark.

You can get a janspeed 4 branch manifold for 70 quid.

Best cam to use is a nova gte cam, get one of them new for about 70 quid, then best to get a vernier pulley too so the timing can be advanced up.

Best carb to use for road (and fuel economy) is a DMTL 32-34 webber,it will make the engine very responsive and torquey low down, or 40's if you have shares in bp these will be a bit boggy low down but will give better power high up in th rev's.

If you get the head ported, find out the best compression you can run and get the head skimmed to raise the compression. Best person to ask would be bill blydenstien, shore he advertises in the back of Total vaux.

Once you have got it all back together get it down to T&M electrical in colchester and get Ray to set it up on the RR... he is **** hot with carbs etc.

All of the above is not to expensive and will make your 1.4 go like hell.

Yeah, i didnt have a problem with this months meeting location either... but then again, im right in the middle of chelmsford and ipswich really anyway! a surgestion from me would be the horse and groom at gallywood, because they have plenty of room outside and they hold mini meets there on a week night, so they may well be up for mig meets being there. i think it would be ideal in the summer, the only problem is its a bit far for some of the more northan members...

That'd be a start.... and I think getting at least one co-ordinator who comes online for more than 5 minutes a week might be an idea too (no offence Neil)...

Thing is, we've had polls before.... it's what happens with the info afterwards that matters most I think.

Maybe the region needs to get split into Eastern South and Eastern North??
Iirc we have the most members and quite possibly the lowest turn-out...

Something ain't right, that's fer sure.

Saturdays would be a bad idea i think (more people work them)

I don't think the region needs to be split, we just need another co-ordinator who has time (like Ian said) for arranging things properly. and working with Neil if he needs a hand.
