yeah, im guessting that would give you some where around 100-110 bhp, maybe more. you would obviously need to convert it to MPI, and use some form of custom management, but it is certainly do-able. i know that some one turbo'd a corsa 1.2SPi, and it gave good results.

engine swap would be much easier than converting to Mpi. the ports are square on the spi head, but not on the mpi one, so you would need to swap the heads over, and the manifolds (inlet and exhaust), swap ECUs and everything.

so just drop a new engine in there.

    or, as Tufty said, carbs.

Turbo would end up costing a lot of money, for quite a small gain compared to an engine swap, also, if the insurance won't be happy with you anyway, saying you added a turbo will only cause problems.

Where're the pics of your car then Brian???

ok three stupid questions, how much are carbs, and how much work involved and how much extra power?

    Cheers Chris.

i've never really looked into the price of carbs before. I reckon they'll be about £300 ish (i've seen some twin 40s for sale at this price, not sure whether it's good). I don't know whether they make an inlet manifold for your engine for use with carbs, you'd have to look into it.

i'd definately say that an engine swap is the best idea

I have a digital camera and took some pics with it yesterday after I picked it up, but I cant load them onto my laptop.

I have the leads and a CD but I cant get it to load the pics up.

I gave up in the end, computers just wind me up. Switched it off before I put my fist through another screen.....

I will get some help from somewhere and post some up ASAP.

It looks great anyway, Just gonna go and get the 18"s back on, then probeably gonna be at Southend tonight.

cam, carbs, and a lightened flywheel are about the easiest things to do to gain performance from your engine. your best bet would be to save your dosh and buy a 1.8 sport or summit. may take a while but well worth the wait.

Well engine swap is a consideration, but HIC have said that even with my ban, small mods (such as carbs, cams, etc) on my 1.4 won't cost the earth in insure.

Out of interest does anybody know what the insurance groups for the vauxhall engines between 1.6 8v and 2.0 16v are?

iirc the lowest group for a 2.0 16v is 13, and the lowest group for a 1.6 8/16v is about a group 6/7

think i will probably go along with the idea of carbs, need to keep the 1.4 lump in her, got a CAT by-pass exhaust and induction kit already, so carbs will fit the bill!

Ok, worked out the carbs at around £100, but what about the cam and head work, do you mean porting and polishing? And i'd put a lightened flywheel on too.
Any idea on prices for the cam, lightening flywheel, etc.

Thanks Ian. Hows yours coming along? Let me know if you need anything wont you.

The front bumper is a standard bumper with an Irmscher lower half and some plastic cut out below the number plate for some mesh. I brought it off of Red Devil in white and had it fitted, along with the skirts by my local bodyshop.

    Well happy with the results....

I am thinking of buying a calibra leather interior and fitting the front seats, does anyone know if an upholsterer would be able to replace the foam in the side bolster (Base part) that has gone soft and also match the material to cover my rear seats? I could let them strip the rear calibra seats if that would help.

I am not to sure, anybody know if its possible?

Mine aren't coming along mate, and there's very little that can be done about it (except by Mike).

afaik seat bolsters can be re-padded and re-covering seats in matching material should be (fairly) easily done too.

Are you getting your components cleaned up ready to be refitted then? I thought that would keep you busy.

Does anyone know of any trimmers around Colchester or Chelmsford that are good and not too expensive.

I spoke to one in Ipswich earlier that sound reasonable but would like to get it done locally if possible.
