What happened to me yesterday!

Well what an unbelieveable day i had yesterday. Started off fine, went and collected my mates van at about half 11 in the morning, loaded it up with the GSi's bodykit, doors and various other panels to take to my painters new unit down in Romford. Was also going to Northants to collect a rear beam for a GSi at a knock down price.
So leave mine and set off down the A12, as we pass Witham a BMW comes up beside me and sits there in the outside lane, bit strange i thought but just carried on at 70.
The BM slows down and pulls in behind me, after about 15 minutes he's still following me at a distance switching lanes whenever i do and not letting me out of his sight.
Now me and my mate have no clue who he is and don't reconise the car so decide to just carry on on our journey and see what happens.
He ends up following us along the A12 and all the way round the M25 to the A1 turn off. As we get on to the A1 roundabout i see a police car pulled up on the bridge, we go past him the BM buggers off and the panda cars follows me.
Get on the A1 and he sits about 4 car lengths behind me just following, not sure why, then notice three volvo's go tanking the other way with blues and tos going, aha, he's waiting for back up.
Carry on going then all of a sudden out of no-where theres 7 police cars surrounding the van forcing me over to the hard shoulder, naturally i move over and stop the van.

Turns out the guy in the BM works for nightspeed and has phoned his boss saying he's seen the van and doesn't now the driver, the boss has phoned the police saying its been nicked and most of the Hertfordshire Constabulary has come after us!
Que 7 hours in Hatfield Police Station whilst everything gets sorted out and us getting out at 10 and waiting for 2 hours for a mate to come pick us up.
The real bugger about all of this is that all my parts are still in the back of the van. Fortually the officer dealing with it managed to get hold of the owner who has said i can come down on tuesday and pick up the items then.
So anybody got a van they actually own that i can borrow????

Also sorry about missing the meal Dan, this would be the reason why lol.
Chris.

Not really lol, fortually the police saw my side of the story and realised its not the crime of the century and were really good to me all day. Though why it took over 7 hours to validate everything is beyond.

That's just the way they work unfortunatly, slowly.

So did the copper look at you with the usual amount contempt when you said 'i borrowed it from a mate?'

Everytime i've had contact with cops on the road they treat me like i've just killed there Nan!

(i should mention now, i've never killed anyones Nan!)

How are you fixed for insurance etc? They taking any further action?

Was funny on the motorway i counted 7 police cars (of which 5 were armed response!) and about 14 officers! Bit ott if you ask me!
No, noaction is being taken as the boss understood the circumstances, and the van insured for anyone over 21 to drive.
Coppers were all really nice to us, defently much better at there people skills than essex police.

Thats excatly right, this is atleast the 10th time i've used that van and i can think of loads of my mates who have borrowed it off him over the years. You'd think i would have asked his boss at some point being that it has the words Nightspeed plastered all over it!
He's now not gonna go into work on tuesday, don't quite see how thats going to help him keep his job lol, especially as i'll be there in the evening to pick all my stuff back up, so his boss will find out then anyway lol.

I don't think he can be sacked for that, he will be given a warning either written or verbal and I am sure he will keep his job as long as he can explain that he lend it to you in good faith and you are one of his most trust worthy mate or even a cousin. Keep your fingers crossed he gets away with it, so did the police raise the insurance issue as driving a borrowed van may not have covered him.

i have no sympathy for the lad who lent it to you as he had been warned not to lend it out to anyone, but it is shame, cos he's a good lad who has just maybe made some stupid decisions (something i'm sure we are all guilty of at some point!)
