    Re-shell

I've had a preliminary quote (based on those 2 photo's) of £1500 for the repairs to the IE. That's likely to increase when they actually see the car i rekon, and i'm not entirely sure where the funding for this will come from.

But then i thought, what if i bought another Saloon, ripped it apart, had any small body repairs that it needed done (based on me buying 1 with little to no rust), and get it painted then transfer everything i can over from the IE to it. That would probably include the entire interior (and probably loom), engine, aircon, elec windows/mirrors - the whole lot.

Do you think that's a better idea?

Only probelm is i'd need somewhere to store 2 cars for a time as i don't have anywhere for either.

Im not sure you would save much money as you would still have to source the bodykit parts your missing and then have them painted to suit the new colour on the new saloon.

I spoke to my paint guy and he recokend that with you supplying the parts, you could get it done for around the same as you've quoted so that seems fair to me.

Incidently... I picked up a brand new GSi bonnet other day for pennies, if you want it then its yours for £60. Also, Im sure my mate at Autovaux once said they had a load of GSi front bumpers taking up space, I'll ask him today. If he does then you've got 90% of the bits you need to fix. Front panels etc from Vauxhall arnt much.....

Id seriously consider re-pairing rather then re-shelling.

Tbh mate i'd imagine that would end up costing you more, and i'd imagine finding a decent saloon shell is going to be difficult. Plus swapping things like the air-con is ment to be a real pig. Plus if you wanted to fit the A/C you'll have to weld in a new fan just as you would with your current car. Plus i'd imagine fair number of mechanical parts would have to be changed as they would probably be damaged on removal? Plus would it be worth fitting the 1800 in? and yes and you i'll need from the entire internal loom from the car! Loom fitting is Dan's specialty lol

I'm no expert though mate but if i was you it would be going into the body shop or if things are really tight (dare i say it) you may have to consider breaking it
Turbo Power is here!!!! And my god i LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks guys. That's put paid to that idea then.

    Brian: Explain?

Dave: Does that include the vents? (don't need them) If you can get me a price on a front bumper, that would be great. Genuine or pattern?

Still no word as to when i might get my car back.

Chap, i guarantee once you get the car back, remove the bits from the front it wont be as bad as it looks. £1500 is a bit excessive i think. Daves painter is expensive for private work (no offence meant Dave) First thing is get it home and strip the front down then itll be more obvious. Second hand Astra parts are peanuts. Only expensive job will be repairing the metal work.
If you want to bring it to mine and strip it down before deciding let me know. Id rather you repaired it so willing to help out!

Even I had to read it twice!

No dosnt include the vents mate, but the holes are there and its a pattern part so not like some nip has taken a hacksaw to the bonnet.

Dave - i'll let you know.

Thanks Dan. I'll have to see tho - as i only get 1 free ride on the RAC express - so i would need to be able to get it from yours to the bodyshop after (not a short journey).

I take it from the potential customer comment there would be a cost associated to that -which is fine, send me a PM about it so i know what i'm looking at. Cheers mate.

Even if i did break the car, i'd keep all the best bits for myself, skirts/leather/ele windows + mirrors/rear bumper in the hope that i'd use them again.

Though maybe not the rear bumper. I've done hatch + saloon, might get an estate or cabby next (in the remote circumstance i break the iE)

I'm also slightly glad the reshelling idea is binned - as i wouldn't really be able to call it an iE anymore, which would make me sad )

Cabriolet would look cool with the TS rear bumper and GSI skirt and arch kit. Simon P used to have a nice white one and Brian's looks good with the Irmscher stuff on.

Hmmm Id be tempted into a cabriolet now thinking about it. Much more pimp.

Cheers Dan - that's really kind.
Your talking about that bumper aren't you? There's a guy on Mk3OC who's thinking about getting a saloon (Matt_MPH or something similar) send him a PM.

    What else you got?

Seriously considering having the engine out to spruce it up abit while the bodywork is being done - they'd have to remove it anyway right?

I'm probably going to have to leave any engine changes for a few years while my insurance cost recovers.
