Visitors to this year’s VBOA Vauxhall Heritage Centre Open Day on Sunday October 8th can enjoy a “works” drive for three laps of the Brands Hatch circuit in a VX Racing Astra.
Vauxhall will be setting up the VX-R BTCC simulator for the day as well as throwing open their priceless collection of Vauxhall and Bedford vehicles to VBOA club members. There will be gas filled balloons for the kids, a quality raffle with proceeds to the Pasque children’s hospice in Luton and every guest will receive a memento in the form of the newly published Heritage Centre brochure with pictures and descriptions of the cars in the collection. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
Club members’ cars and commercials will be parked adjacent to the collection, forming a wonderful panorama of all things Vauxhall, Bedford and Opel for the visitor to enjoy.
The person who sets the fastest time of the day in the simulator will be awarded the prestigious “golden wellie” award. Bring your car and join in the fun on October 8th from 11.00am. Access is from Park Street Luton, behind Vauxhall’s Griffin House headquarters, just off the M1 at junction 10. Entry is free and Opels are most definitely welcome too!
Here are directions from Ian Coomber the VBOA chairman as the centre is not obviously marked.

I have been asked by one of the more connected clubs to publish a postal address for the Heritage Centre visit on October 8th so it can be located by sat nav or on a computer mapping service. Unfortunately it’s not quite that simple as it lies in the back car park of Vauxhall’s headquarters building, Griffin House, and as such does not have a post code. However, Griffin House is on Osborne Road, Luton, LU1 3YT. Having located Griffin House, visitors should proceed down the hill (Osborne Road) with Griffin House on their right and turn right at the T-junction into Park Street. The entrance to the Griffin House staff car park and the Heritage Centre is the second Vauxhall gate encountered on the right hand side of the road, 300 metres or so along from the bottom of Osborne Road. I am hoping Vauxhall will put some banners etc out to identify the entrance on the day.
A verbal description from the M1 junction 10 goes as follows:
At the roundabout at the end of the motorway spur road take the second exit to follow the A505 down Airport way which is a dual-carriageway and used to have a wonderful vista of the Luton plant until it was knocked down and renamed the Napier Business Park. A fine reward after 99 years of service to the ungrateful burghers of Luton, but I digress. Shortly after Airport Way becomes a single carriageway, take the first exit at the roundabout. Almost immediately there is a second roundabout. Take the first exit onto Gypsy Lane, passing the Vauxhall Recreation Club on the left and a shopping mall on the right (traffic lights). At the mini roundabout take the first exit into Osborne Road, with the Brache restaurant/hotel on the left and Griffin House on the right. Then proceed as above.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards
Ian
