    Thumbs down some bad news

My water pump wet it self and pissed water all over a petrol forecourt

I had detting and the temp gauge went of the scale but i limped it home from the south circ time for a new one me thinks. hopefully no damage hasbeen done cause i cant afford my new rebuild just yet.

Que Mark how much for a new water pump supply and fit unless dan you fancy giving me a hand to do it.

Mate if the pump has gone..... well, lets hope eh.

Shame to go to the time hassle and expense of belt, pulleys etc if you find the engine is canoo'd at the end of it. How long was it running after the pump gave up?

    cheers guys
after closer inspection the pump still works thankfully but its like trying to fill a collender with water so i reckon its failed either on the gasket (if there is one) or the pump itself has a hole in it.

so will need to take every thing off to make sure.

do the XE have a rubber seal in them like ecotecs, if its the original pump the seal may have perished.

ya see thats the problem when it runs it dont leak but after she gets hot and i switch her off she wets her pants and its coming from the bottom of the engine thus assuming its the water pump

it might be the mother of all water pipes, a 3 way pipe at the back of the head under the alternator which links the water pump to the plastic pipe that runs round the back of the head to the radiator and the bottom of the inlet manifold all at the same time and its a pain to change.

but you say its fine when running, hence it doesnt leak due to flow of water but when hot the gap opens and it leaks

Could be a cracked block rob. Fine when hot due to expansion, dumps when cold due to contraction. Just a theory.

    Fair play matey!

Reason I ask is because it comes down to the number of teeth on the belt and pump.

I have a cambelt kit for an early XE sitting at Dan's unit, so if it's early, all you need is a water pump, we can sort summat out with the kit as it's left over from my conversion.

Count dem der teef my son!! lmao

Sorry to hear about this Rob. Like Tom said it sounds like the rigid plastic pipe at the back of the engine, if its the pump then its a cambelt off job and you need to fit a new one which is added cost. I would hope its the pipe, a bugger to change but cheaper.

Sorry guys, forgot to post the pic, was busy in the unit working with Dan. Will try and post tonight.

Rob, Not sure If Iv'e mentioned this. But I know a chap who breaks and Builds XEs for rally cross. He has a few good ones on pallets awaiting dismantling. Sure I could persuade him to exchange one for you...
