So happy pick it up end of this month

jap smash, according to lots of sources it's been in a major smash (I could not see anything) HPI is clear.

So might not be getting it, as I have only paid a holding deposit grrrr

check for crankwalk on the Evo 4, its a major problem on these, if its got a later engine from an Evo 5 onwards then you'll be ok.

If its an original Evo 4 engine then you're asking for trouble.

here's how you can check for crankwalk, if i were you i'd check before committing to the deal :

Jack up the front of the car, take off the drivers side front wheel and remove the plastic cover at the back of the wheel arch to uncover the crank pully.
Get a dial test indicator on a magnetic stand attached to the sump and position the needle onto the face of the pulley.
Push the pulley towards the block and then zero the DTI, then lever the pulley away from the block and hey presto the reading on the DTI is the crank end float. This should be 0.15 - 0.25mm if its above 0.4mm then you have CRANKWALK - WALK AWAY QUICKLY !!!

If the engines had lots of oil changes at the correct intervals then you stand a chance of not having crankwalk, if its been neglected then be very careful.

If it happened in Japan then it wont show on the HPI, unfortunately accident repaired Jap imports are ten a penny
