    Day trip to France

    Righty,

I'm planning a day trip to France for us peeps in time for Christmas.

I'm planning for Saturday 18th November when it hoprfully wont be too busy and its not to expensive.

Currently prices are looking to be around £40 per car for the tunnel and roughly the same for P&O although ferries cant be booked more than 28 days in advance so cant get exact price. The idea is that we leave nice and early to get the 7am-8am train/ferry and spend the day in and around Calais taking advantage of the hypermarkets for christmas shopping, also we can annoy some French!!
There is a possibility that some cheap hotel rooms can be obtained so we may be able to travel down on Friday night and stay overnight somewhere near Dover and break up the driving a bit. Again i have enquired into hotel rooms and they vary from £25 a night to around £45 for a twin room.

These are just ideas that i have been throwing around, it would be good to have some sort of trip like this between us.

Lets make this a good laugh and not like the usual Central events where nobody shows up on the day. I'll be putting a thread in South East to see if they are interested.

    Anyways, who is interested???

Yeah, i think thats the plan, the hotel rooms were for the Friday night, so Saturday will be in France, and back out in the evening/afternoon.

I did a roadrace from Dover to Brugge in a day, and stayed overnight in brugge, but that was expensive, and its too involved.

I'll try and work out the hotel in Dover for proper prices.

Okay, quick update, the hotel in dover i used last timewas the best western, churchill. It looks about £45-55, depending on what type of room, it also looks like pp, pn, unless we can be crafty.

Just doing a search of Hotels in Folkstone, best so far is a twin room for £59 or a triple room (2 single, 1 double) for £90 inc breakfast = £30 each

Edit: Chandos Guest House £24 per single room, £50 for a double or £55 for a triple room, looks a good bet!

    UPDATE:

As i posted above we can get single rooms for £24 or doubles for £50 but they would need to be booked soon as there isnt many avaliable at this place.

Tunnel cost is £57 return or £27 each way as you have to book it.

P&O Ferry is £35 return, £10 going out, £15 coming back and a £10 fuel surcharge.

Although the Ferry takes that bit longer its always fun and you can actually do something on the crossing. We also come out in Calais whereas the Tunnel takes you some 10 miles from Calais although it is right outside the Cite Europe where we are heading for.

Will be needing final numbers for this sometime in the next week or so. THen we can go aobut booking stuff if nessacery

Sorry to bum in on a non-regional thread but am I right in thinking there is no booze/fag limit for bringing back?
