    Santa Pod 12th Sept

The FIA European Drag Racing Championship Finals

Following on from Round 1 at Santa Pod Raceway in May, the nitromethane guzzling engines of Drag cars will travel through Finland, Sweden, Norway and Germany before returning to Santa Pod from 9th /12th September 2004 for the Finals of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship! Will anyone have smashed the new European record set by Britain 's Andy Carter? A stunning ¼ mile run on Santa Pod's famous quarter-mile strip saw a scorching run of 4.832 seconds at 306.36 mph!

Despite giving the overall event win to Sweden 's Tommy Moller, he'll be back to fight for the Championship crown!

Over 250 race teams are expected from all over Europe to compete in both the FIA Championship (cars) and the UEM Championship (bikes). This is Europe 's most prestigious Drag Racing event and will be televised for Sky Sports, Channel 5, Granada Men & Motors and other international broadcasters.

Around 25,000 people are expected to attend this final round of the FIA/UEM Championship and it promises another good field of the top classes including Top Fuel Dragsters. From a standing start, Top Fuel Dragsters accelerate faster than a jumbo jet, a fighter jet and a Formula One race car. The force is nearly five times that of gravity, the same force as a space shuttle leaving the launch pad at Cape Canaveral!

The only way to stop after completing the high-speed quarter mile is to pull two huge parachutes and wait for the car to slow down, that's the equivalent to travelling the length of more than four football fields in less than 5 seconds). It doesn't always go to plan, sometimes resulting in fiery engine explosions.

Alongside the Top Fuel Dragsters you'll witness Top Methanol Dragsters and Funny Cars, Pro-Stock cars, Pro Mods and Nitro Funny Cars. Sportsman classes will support the line-up - an explosive mixture of cars and a great show in their own right - dragsters, doorslammers, roadsters and even beetles!

The two-wheeled stars of Drag Racing will also be here in force. Competitive riders from over 7 countries will be fighting for the UEM Drag Bike Championship crown in each of the respective three classes. UEM Top Fuel Bike, UEM Super Twin Bike and UEM Pro Stock Bike. The 200mph Top Fuel Bikes are so fast that the riders, who literally lay over the monster engines, can be swept off the machines if they raise their fingers off the handlebars. If the throttle jams the rider has only one terrifying option… to jump. Running orders and entry list information available in due time.

Plenty of off-track entertainment too with kids' attractions including model & face painting, quads, helicopters rides, kids entertainers, adrenalin rides and funfair. Plus Spectacular Jet Car demos and an aerobatic Stunt display! For a FULL 2003 race report, qualifying times and great pictures, visit Eurodragster

Tickets are £26 on the gate or £21 in advance

    Anyone interested?

LURF - The proper pronunciation for "love". Especially emphasized during karaoke sessions.

Just to let you guys know, it's not worth buying in advance of £21, as there is a £4 handling surcharge...

So for all the ballache, might as well pay £26 on the gate

    Thats what I'm doing anyway
