I have been thinking about this now and I honestly can’t find an answer, so I would like some opinions....
Why do people prefer N/A cars to turbo, after seeing many highly tuned N/A cars, it seems that as with turbo's the power is quite high up the rev range, I mean you have to keep up the revs to use the power right, well a good driver in a turbo car would be doing the same thing to eliminate lag
.... So why not just opt for a turbo,
It’s certainly a lot cheaper to get the power from a turbo, also easier to tune
Remember im only talking about modified N/A engines here
A lot of them are na. Simply due to the fact that an na engine has a predictable and smoother power curve.
It comes really down to track use. If you go into a corner coming on boost in a powerful turbo it could really make a mess of your day.
CCC test drove martin hadlands escort cossie and although its a quick car the said it was awful for circuit use as you either came out of corners on boost fighting drift or left it off boost and ended up coming out of corners waiting for a build up to get it on boost again.
superchargers look rosey on the surface, but some have huge parasitic loses, and despite what you think some designs do actually have to spool up before they provide positive pressure. there are also issues with reliability, ontop of the normal compressed air problems (high induction temps)
Turbos have lousy throttle response - newer designs get better all the time, but it's still unacceptable for track use.
The intake track is far too long, there's no way it can be as sharp as n/a throttle bodies.
underbonnet temperatures are always a problem with turbos, it's unavoidable
The power-delivery though (rush of torque all at once) is not a fundamental problem, as it can be adjusted and manipulated with a proper setup.
Efficiency is higher with turbos - of course it is, they reuse wasted energy (but you trade off throttle response and underbonnet temps)
pmsl, though even with it in standard form there wouldnt be much keeping up with it either! They are as quick as a vx220 turbo round a track, and in the wet better again!

not so. graham vanstones 2litre throttle bodied mk1 golf pissed all over an evo extreme round combe.
hell, i had a side by side all the way from the start finish straight up avon rise with a silver evo track day hire car, he pulled back in behind me for quarry, didint have enough to get past.
The first time I drove a turbo I just fell for the acceleration. There's no going back really...
Skillful track drivers wouldn't want any of this bull - they're not after raw power, they're after lap times, and for that you need experience, practice, familiarity, handling and an engine that's smooth and predictable. Turbos are outlmao
i also prefer turbo engines. just cant beat the feeling of the car pushin you into the seat when the boost comes in. and the small amount of lag that there is(on the LET anyway) is in my opinion not bad becuase it feels kinda dull at first then WOOSH your off like a shot which makes the car feel even quicker. love it
i would say it all depends on what you wanna use the car for whether you are best suited to a turbo or n/a setup
my only feeling after spending some time in a cav turbo is i WANT it to go ptiiiiiiiiisssssh when i change gear, just so people know how its that quick.
hmm i forgot to mention the d/v. say what you will about me but i like the sound of it myself. sounds even nicer comin from under the bonnet of a nova and some peoples faces are a picture. lol
Horses for courses. That's why Bugatti Veryon will never be as good to some people as Macca F1 (me, for one) because it needs four turbos to shave 0.3 of a second off its 0-60 time.
Turbo rush is massively addictive, but then a good N/A engine is so much fun because you have to make the effort of going to 7000rpm+ to get the most out of them. Although nothing sings like a good V6 or V8...

Aint that the truth, they're best at highly illegal speeds anyways.
I got frustrated when I hit the wall of power loss, the thing about the Civic is that this doesn't happen, the same has to be true of the TB crew as well, accessible power can be a big equaliser.
