    I'm agonising over this!!! Help!

    Porsche pro's:
    - More exclusive
    - One of the best drivers cars ever made
    - Said to be "real world" quicker than things like 911 turbo, M4, M5 etc due to balance
    - OEM 4 pots all round
    - Epic steering

    Porsche cons:
    - 2 seats
    - Slightly tame looks from factory
    - Engine problems (RMS / IMS and bore scoring)
    - 95% are in dull colours

    BMW pros:
    - Sublime, predictable, controllable handling
    - Tough engine and box
    - Loads of mods available (albeit expensive)

    BMW cons:
    - Boot floors can crack
    - SMG systems can have issues
    - Bodies rust quicker than a Porsche (no rust)

Re: E46 M3 or Cayman S... which would you have?

    Porsche pro's:

    - More exclusive.
Very good reason to buy one, main reason I want a VXR8 over an M3

    - One of the best drivers cars ever made
You love driving fast and track driving. Answers it's own question really

    - Said to be "real world" quicker than things like 911 turbo, M4, M5 etc due to balance
Again, you chase lap times, need faster car for faster times

    - OEM 4 pots all round
Very wise, better than using the Armco

    - Epic steering
Would be handy for a track then(pattern forming here

    Porsche cons:

    - 2 seats
So the whores will have to run in the Audi, save the Porsche for 'hoe of the week'

    - Slightly tame looks from factory
Its a Porsche, kind of their thing lol

    - Engine problems (RMS / IMS and bore scoring)
Its a car, it'll have problems. If something breaks you fix it

    - 95% are in dull colours
So buy one in the 5% bracket. (Also just to remind you, you bought a white civic, black BMW and black Porsche. Hardly a daring colour pallet

    BMW pros:

    - Sublime, predictable, controllable handling
Which you've had before, could I dare say I tiny bit boring the second time round

    - Tough engine and box
Yep good plus point, but brakes made of cheese

    - Loads of mods available (albeit expensive)
Handy but will it need expensive work to get as good as the Porsche?

    BMW cons:

    - Boot floors can crack
A fixable problem but possibly cause big issues if on track at the time

    - SMG systems can have issues.
Seen this cause grown men to cry

    - Bodies rust quicker than a Porsche (no rust).
If you've got a welder not the end of the world but still a problem you won't have with the Porsche.

For me it's the Cayman S hands down, you've had the BM and it's a cracking motor but I reckon if you had another one you'd spend a lot of time wondering if the S went round that last Apex quicker.

You had an E46 M3? Why go backwards.

I had one a while ago and just couldn't gell with it. I was sensible and bought a manual but I just didn't like it. It was nice to look at, and I enjoyed the smugness of owning an M3 but it wasn't for me, or you either it would appear given how quickly you parted with it.

Personally, if I were in your shoes, I'd go cayman. If you don't like it, sell it and buy an M3, it's not like there isn't plenty to choose from.

Cheers for the answers guys I am swaying towards a Cayman

M3 just seems mechanically tougher. 1 in 5 Caymans have serious engine trouble which can cost thousands to repair.

Which is 2500, about a third of the cost of a basic Cayman rebuild to replace scored cylinders

Yep as I said above mate, all cars have risks.

Why didn't you have the M3 very long? Is that a factor towards getting one?
Don't get me wrong I've come very close to buying an E46 myself (still am tempted), they are great cars. But you've had one of them already and you've been wanging on about a Cayman for a while lol.

I'd say go for it, if the engine goes bang it goes bang. Expensive but so is putting an M3 into a tree at 80 mph.
