Who would bother with this GSi?

On my travels today i came across this.

Its a genuine 1 owner (+ company) with FSH and only 58k. Its been stood for 3 years, but still starts and drives. Had new arches and some floorpans recently but not painted in yet

Spoke to the guy who owns it and hes says "About a grand"

Every part of me says dont buy it. I have no room, recently bought a champ which needs work and still no time.

But then another part says, "it would be nice to have a mint 4x4"

    Who would bother with it?

Re: who would bother with this GSi?

I think to someone who wanted a GSi it would be worth it for a grand, GSi's are rare enough these days, and 90% of the ones that come up for sale are FWD.

Like you I would love a mint GSi 4x4, but also like you I have enough on my plate, the Cavs I have are keeping me busy as hell!

I just hate the thought of it sitting there.

But like you do have plenty on my plate, Especially with the trackday season coming up.

I bought a GTE champ in december, and have not even so much as started it since ownership!

Was there a problem with burgundy paint? They all seem to flake and peel?

Re: Who would bother with this GSi?

What is the point of the whole 'FSH' and one owner if it's been stood for long enough to have tyres go flat and algae to grow all over the body?
There's a possibility it could be a nice car, but 1k is well overpriced.

Re: Who would bother with this GSi?

not really, the whole 4x4 plan could be sold for a project for a couple a hundred, you would get 200 for the cav slabs with tyres, 300 for the xe and if it has leather seats there's another 100 quid. That's 750 already? All depends who wants what bits and what you want to do, It's worth a grand to someone.

That's a lot of 'coulds', it has cloth seats, are 4x4 pans in demand and do Ronals go for 200 quid? It still doesn't equal 1k in parts though.

Re: Who would bother with this GSi?

Agreed its not a viable breaker. It would need to be £400 to make any sence,

The fact it has fsh up until its sorn and only 58k are only any use to someone restoring it.

Still theres not many 4x4s left so for the sake of a £600 paint job it could still be a good buy to the right person.

Re: Who would bother with this GSi?

Stuff like this should have alarm bells and warning lights surrounding it.

Low mileage and alledged FSH counts for nothing on a car of this age. The fact it's clearly been neglected matters more. The paintwork is ruined and that's just the start of it... what's to say it's not rotten underneath, all the running gear could be corroded, discs, pads, tyres etc etc. To buy it and get it back to a reasonable standard will cost fairly significant cash, time you budget a full hit of paint, tyres, discs and pads, service kit etc etc plus what ever else it needs for it's MoT. Could end up being a rather dear project so yes I'd agree, sub £500 and it would be viable but I just see it being worth more than that in that state.

    Back lights are wrong too
