How to go about scrapping a car without giving it away...i need cash

May seem like a daft question to some people, but ive never done it before....

Have an old corsa 5 door merit, 1.2 8v, and NEED rid of it off my drive.

Wana try and get about 250 all together.... possible?

If you fill it with metal and scrap it then possibly. Round my way you'd get about £150-£160 for it I reckon. But thats if you get it to the scrapyard yourself. Be less if you need it picking up.

If im weighing it in as metal, scrap. it wont be less by removing the interior bits n bobs will it?

aka...It still has both keys, so was thinking of removing locks, barrel, ecu, transpoder and keys to sell

It will weigh less, so you'll get less for it.

As Paul says all about the weight.
My old daily Passat weighs about 1400kgs standard, got it on the weigh bridge yesterday at 2.9 tonnes!

True less weight less money, but are the scrap yard going to pay xxx amount for a heavier car if its just heavy with crap, not metal. thats got heavy leather seats in etc.... thats no use to them either way, so removing the odd bits and bobs......

If they are car seats then stick them in.
They'll still count as scrap metal.

Weigh in the cat, battery and alloys (if it has them) seperately, as the price per ton is more for those. Also, if you remove the wheels, you'll get more, as some places charge a £5 penalty for each tyre, as they don't like rubber.

Cheers mate! Im more then willing to do the work..I have enough time on my hands atm (sigh).... I actualy have 2 CATs there so thats a start! 6 Steelys, and 4 15" clio alloys so prob more worth me breaking it down my self.

soak the interiour with water then as himselfunknown says waigh the battery cat ect in seperat if you have any more metal just stick it in unless its copper lead ect ect

just make sure they're not euro cats mate as you'll probs only get about £4 each for them.

I would personally just drive it there and weigh it in. should be about £120ish. otherwise you have a lot of messing about for very little money.

I saw on that crappy 'Police Camera' TV program where Dava and Wazza pulled some fella over in a car that wasn't taxed or mot'd. He said that he was taking it to the scrapyard, at which point Wazza and Dava radio'd Mazza at the station to check if he was insured (which he was), and then let him go towards the scrapyard.

A little corsa in the south west will fetch 110. Cats can be low grades £17 each, small 15, aftermarket 3. All vary with what you have.
I'd pay 80 on a corsa 90 tops and thats if its local.

A bloke knocked on the door and offered my other half 110 for it about 4-5 month ago mate....

google emr european metal recycling tyne and wear

they pay 170 a ton in birmingham. not sure if you can just drive in. think wheels need to be off ground theft issues,

they also take cats. pay best prices

emr is were the smaller yards weigh there scrap in.

Near me weighed a five door in yestaday and got 180 no wheels then 38 for wheels and tyre place kept tyres for doing it win win and made 48 on cat
