    Tell me about Signums

After recently finding out I'm gonna become a dad later this year I've been looking around at sensible roomy car options. Currently driving a golf gttdi and wanna stick to a diesel but unfortunately ain't got a4 avant money. So been looking through eBay at and a signum has caught my eye on an 04 plate. It's fitted with a 3.0 v6 cdti engine but I ain't heard much about them. So please enlighten me.

i love how odd the signum is. the 3.0 v6 cdti is a decent motor but i bet they can cost some money when they go wrong.
stick to the 1.9 16v cdti but make sure the swirl control inlet manifold is ok as they can be a £600+ to fix.

They're basically Vectra estates with a swanky body on them. Everything that applies to the estate and indeed the Vectra C in general applies to the Signum. Personally, I'd avoid the 3.0 CDTi as they're a bit thirsty and a 1.9 CDTi 150 with a remap will be quicker and also more economical. They seem a pretty safe bet assuming you buy a decent spec in the right colour and don't get an orange interior. Quite alot of car for the money. 2.0T or 1.9CDTi 150 in Design or Elite spec would be pick of the bunch I reckon.

Ok cheers for the help I'll have a look at what's about with 1.9 instead. Prefer the look of these to the vec estate and seem to be better money aswell. It gotta be a top spec one lol, if I'm going sensible it's gotta have some creature comforts too lol

    Congratulations Ryan.

The 1.9 seems to tick a lot of the correct boxes for a good family wagon. Boot space, comfort, decent cruiser, etc.

Saab is another option, nice cars with plenty of goodies. Estate ars seem to be quite resonably priced for the amount of kit you get. I've looked at a few options so far 320d, 520d, st tdci, a4 avant sport, passat highline etc

    Congratulations.

I had 3.2 Elite a few years back, it used to munch up the miles, it was a pretty good, handled well for a big old bus. Go for the Elite, with wipe clean leather, mine also had the travel mate, which was a fridge come picnic table, and 12v power out plus DVD player mount.

Like has been said go for the 1.9 if you can, they were out of my price range back then.

    Re: Tell me about signum's

I'm going to go against what everyone else has said here. I've just sold my 1.9 CDTi Signum and while I loved the car, the engine is just a potential money pit.

They all have the DPF fitted which is a common issue, mine recently cost me £600 to replace. The duel mass flywheel was also starting to go on mine which doesn't leave you much change out of a grand, that's before you start replacing the inlet manifold which will almost certainly go at some point. They also eat EGR valves, mine had that replaced. Mileage when I sold it was 49k.

The V6 CDTi isn't much better reliability wise from what I hear although I don't have any direct experience.

I'm on the lookout for a replacement and I'm fancying a 3.2 petrol Vectra. I don't care about the fuel bills, there's so much less to break.

    GTE 16v / Saab 2.0t

    Re: Tell me about signum's

    Congrats on the news dude.

When we were expecting last year I was also looking at Signum 2.0Ts, couldn't find one with the elite spec I wanted so got me a Saab 9-5 Vector 2.0T. Awesome car but looking back I wish I held out for the right Signum to come along. The Saab is awesome but unfortunatly I bought a saloon version. doh!

Bit of a contradiction there mate ?? Is £600 not a lot of money to fix a 1.9 then ?? ive got a 3.0 cdti which has just turned 105000 miles, 40000 of them in my hands, the only problem ive had with it is a failed thermostat, it eats long distance trips for brekkie, has so much torque its rediculously easy to drive fast and embarasses many supposedly better cars, does 35 mpg hooning around town to work and back and did 45mpg + on a 2000 mile round trip to the Alps on a ski holiday in January, im not saying anything bad about a 1.9cdti, just dont ignore the 3.0, mine is a 54 plate and im looking to change it in a couple of months, but only if i can find a newer lower mileage one !!
