They're liek any other engine, people love to talk about the ones that go wrong and opt to ignore those that have been to the moon and back. On the whole, they're ok... not the most refined or fastest diesel engine of it's era but fairly bombproof. There have been a few well documented cases of the diesel pump/immobiliser assembly failing. Repairs used to be mega bucks (£1000+) but that seems to have come right down. Plus, as said there are cars out there racking up 200,000+ and haven't had issues. Aside for that, the vacuum system is a bit weak so leaks and splits diaphrams are common plus the vacuum pumps can wear out = nae boost. The leak of pipes are prone to leaking as are the injector seals, both of which cause the diesel to run back to the tank over night and in the morning, they're a git to start.

And it's a Vectra so there's another shedload of issues... rear bushes, power steering rack seals, corrosion, image...

    Cheers

probably best asking on vvoc forum, or putting the engine code into google and see what you can find

Thanks guys good advice there but i opted for the cheaper option.
    Mk4 Astra estate 1.7DTi.
Slower than my 1.0 12v which baffles me, so some tinkering here and there to get some more horses is defo on the cards.
