Aye, fuel pumps are/were notorious on these. Sealed unit job, used to be about a grand to sort as supposedly they couldn't be repaired. I'm told there's a bloke in the Midlands somewhere who can repair them now though.
They won't set the world on fire but aren't too bad to drive and are well built and good on fuel.
There's only one Andy Morrell, only one Andy Morrell. With a packet of sweets and a cheeky smile, Morell is a paedophile.
Same performance as the 1.6 16v and pretty noisy and unrefined but half decent economy. Apart from fuel pumps pretty reliable.

Do the Astras not use the same engine as I have in the Vectra? (Y20DTH)
Mines is chain driven, it's actually not a bad engine IMO, mines is as quiet as any CDTi engined Vectra I've been in, it's done 180k now and apart from some "cold but not that" starting issues I can't really fault it other than the car it's in. Certainly doesn't seem to deserve the hateful reputation it seems to get!
I've been told the big problem with the pumps is caused by owners not sorting the leak off pipes, resulting in the fuel running back to the tank after being parked up overnight and the pump running dry, how true this is I don't know but it seems plausible.
As Allvaux says, the pumps can be sorted, think it's around the £300 mark for an exchange.
Economy wise, I normally get 42mpg though I'm not the greatest hypermiler!
