cant see that it would mate as the car is still broken down and thats what you pay for to be recoverd regardless of weva you have tried to get it going yourself first. i remember last year my mate had to travel from birmingham to scotland to pick a quad bike up and driving to the nearest services taking the chip out of his key and calling the AA out after they couldn't get the car running (no chip) they had to recover him to scotland

Some of the large firms dont cover cars over 10 years old. AFAIK this includes the AA's basic cover

    That's not correct.
I've never owned a car under 10yrs old and NEVER had any problems with recovery/coming out to me.
You pay your cover for the car to be repaired at the roadside IF possible, or recoverd to one destination so you can pay for the repairs. They're not interested in how old the car is or how much it'll cost you to fix it, no matter what the car is.

My first car was a Mk2 Escort I bought for £30. When the gearbox went, I had no trouble getting it recoved back home so I could then fix it.

My current cars are a '99 Vectra & a '84 Mk1 Astra GTE and the AA have NEVER said they won't come out or recover me.

I've never had a problem with recovery either, and a couple of my cars had K-series.

I have had problems with the RAC, they refused to recover car unless £150 was paid, I phoned up to ask why, the response was, it is modified, the technician could not fix it.
I wasn't even driving my neighbor was and he had RAC as well and registered as priority as he is registered disable.
Needless to say I cancelled my membership and when asked why I told them.
I got it running by unplugging the MAF, the problem, as boost pipe had come undone.

Personal membership is unlimited age, however if your cover is vehicle based then there is a ten year cutoff with the AA.

i was made aware of that after i paid for it and it was from another AA member, the AA have a responsibility to provide you with all info regarding breakdown cover but DONT state the 10 year cut of until you pay then they turn up then tell you, its not that when we/a AA member doesnt give them all the correct info!, lucky i took personal cover or the dude would have got a serious mouth full

    all is well now tho
