Buying a champion on sunday...... In Grey

An old mate of mine just called offering his champ for a good price. Just looking for others views on it really.

Over the years its been debated wether its real or not. Certainly seems to be and has all the right marks, But its in grey, so many people call it a poor replica. (or a good re-shell)

Its got the leather stamp on the VIN. (636 i think) and definately hasnt been painted. The only explanation i can think is that it was bought by an english serviceman in europe and specified in RHD, as it still has the Height adjusting N/s front seat, while the O/s front seat is fixed height.

Any other way of knowing for sure?

If its got the trim code then it is more than likely an import. They got 8v and 5 door champions over in Germany as well as different colours

Il take some pics when i see it again. Its about 80m from home and he's only free on evenings and weekends. I want to have a poke around in the day light so agreed to go round at noon on sunday.

From memory it wants arches and wings, But is in daily use and still T+T'd untill the end of this month so cant be too bad. Plus we have agreed a price which in my opinion is less than its worth in parts so either way it should be a winner.

Would be a shame to break it though.

Don't break it if it's a Champion then, you'll sell it off to a good home!

It'll be an import. All the UK leather editions were bordeaux red. I've seen an Italian one in what looks like a metallic black. Was a left hooker and up for around £2.5K earlier this year. They also did a blueish colour abroad.

Worth a look though for certain! Be quite rare.

Get it bought. As said before, European editions were grey. 'London' editions were burgundy.

He's a valued friend so it would be wrong to break it. I have been on at him for years to sell it to me.

Its from around your way! Id be suprised if you hadnt seen it before. He's had it about 8 years and before that another friend had it for 3.
