    Good jobs gone bad

Post up your 'losing your temper' or tales of buying a car and just giving up on it, leaving it to rot on your folk's driveway/garage for 10 years.

    Two recent ones:
Changed the timing belt on my Astra - a bolt couldn't be removed from the water pump (got two out), so managed to drill it out. Fuse went in the drill's plug half way through. This was in August - I haven't touched it since!

Last time I lost my temper with a car was last year in December - I threw a tub of bolts while changing the engine in the MGF - unfortunately, tub went straight through the passenger door window glass and into the next door neighbour's front garden. Bolts were needed, so spent 1/2 an hour sifting through the snow trying to recover them.
One dog goes one way and the other goes the other.
And this guy's saying, "Whaddya want from me?"

Started to change a Mondeo's clutch once for a mate.
Got bored after 5 minutes, filled the car with scrap and weighed it in.

    Re: Good jobs gone bad

My first car, a Nissan Sunny 1.3DX saloon, was the most unreliable car I've ever owned. Barely a week after buying it from my mum, the head gasket appeared to have failed again, and in a fit of rage/ panic, I limped it to her house (not sure why). After talking to my mum she agreed to give me my money back. As I went to walk home I suddenly saw red and kicked in all the panels on the passenger side, and ran over the roof and bonnet, stamping heavily. You know, to punish it.
Once it was (temporarily) fixed, I managed to push all the dents out! Such flimsy metal.
    They're there, in their room.

Good thread! I try to not get pissed off with things if I know they are going to be a bastard they don't bother me... It's the simple jobs like fitting a fiddley bulb that really test me and for example my recent tigra rebuild I just couldn't get the engine mount to line up so the dummy went along with the hammer right to the back of my garage at about 18m/s.

coming accross allot of spire nuts recently, some people call them J clips. basically a fold of sprung steel with a captive nut or thread in them, ideal for securing items with bolts with no access. not so great after 30 years when the tang breaks off and they just go round and round in the panel void with zero method of getting at the back of them.

i spent 2 hours on one of them, then lost my rag and bounced the 13mm spanner off the bonnet which is now lost in the beech hedge. then i stormed off in a nerd rage and tripped over the mower and hurt my hand breaking my fall. so then i punch the door frame because it had hurt my hand breaking my fall, then i broke my knuckle punching the door frame a second time in retaliation for hurting my hand on the first go.

I don't understand it either. It happened last night with a driveshaft and instead of raging I simply sat down on the cold, wet floor and cried like a fat bullied school boy It worked well to be honest.

    Re: Good jobs gone bad

Not car related but when I was an IT Manager we had a toner spill inside a printer.

I grabbed the Henry hoover and made the mistake of sucking up the toner while the printer was still plugged into the mains / network. There was a big crack as a static spark cause by the toner / air / vacuum / nylon carpet tiles jumped from the metal pipe to the laser printer. Around a minute later my phone rang with someone on the end saying their machine had lost the connection to the network. Then another call and another.

I looked up at the network switches and one by one, each port was turning itself off. Total catastrophic network failure. All 48 ports.

I grabbed my keys, drove to my distributor in Milton Keynes, grabbed a couple of new switches and was back within an hour and a half lmao.

Also (at the same company when I was contracting) managed to change an index on their databases biggest table and locked everyone out of the whole system for nearly two days while the whole database had to reindex itself.

Slammed a door at work on a BV206 snowcat, the chimp that had stripped it lost half of the parts for the rebuild. Was working nights and feeling cranky so at 3 am the door got slammed, the window smashed and fell out, and i stormed off having a hissy fit like a spoilt 8 year old!!!

    lol. making inanimate objects pay.

i remember watching a tv show called genius, a member of the public suggested putting offending items like the bumper or spire nuts in a naughty box (or in the corner) as punishment, since its all psychological anyway and makes just as much sense.

    Re: Good jobs gone bad

As a youngster i locked my paycheck and keys in my 3dr astra sport on a friday afternoon. Wanted to cash it for the weekend so had to get in somehow.

Mk3 so couldnt catch the the lock with tie wrap, Tried jemying the door lock but slipped and put a f#ck off scratch on the door.

Then lost my temper and threw a brick through the window...... which bounced off the headrest and came out the other side...... smashing both rear side windows!

    Not my finest hour.

had a night of it tonight. came home from work and decided to finish off fitting my new bucket seats in the astra. started off by dropping the snap on ratchet on the bonnet and denting it, then cut my finger open on a sharp bit of swarf inside the car but didnt realise i had done it until i saw the blood dripped all over my new blue seat, then to top it off, when going to get a new drill bit off the shelf, brushed against a spade hanging on the wall, knocking it off and it fell and went straight through the cord of the drill, tripping not only the electric in the garage but the house too (pissing both my wife and daughter off in the process when they were plunged into darkness!) decided at that point to call it a night, after all the damaged id caused in an hour.

Sounds like a familiar situation! Big question is.. How did you deal with it? Rage? Cry? Naughty box?
