Just remember Rich if you buy a scooter keep away from the cheap Chinese **** you see advertised. They're cheap for a reason-they're ****ing rubbish. Buy from a well known manafacturer such as Yamaha, Honda etc.
Peugeots and Italjets not be sniffed at either though.

That c50 brings back memories, Had loads of those as off roader's when i was young. Used to chop the back off, flare out the wheel-arch and fit a big 17" knobbly.

Not if you have a car licence, the CBT activates your moped entitlement so as long as you have your cert you can ride a 50cc forever.

Anything not defined as moped e.g 50cc 30mph requires every 2 years

Without L plates and with pillion passengers too. See here:

Information for moped riders : Directgov - Motoring

'If you have a car licence...

If you obtained your full car licence before 1 February 2001 you are automatically entitled to ride a moped without L-plates (D-plates in Wales).

If you obtained a full car licence after 1 February 2001 you must first complete a CBT course and obtain a DL 196 certificate to validate your entitlement.'

Also: Compulsory basic training (CBT): when and how to take it : Directgov - Motoring

Riding a moped if you have a car driving licence

If you already have a CBT certificate when you pass your car test, your full moped rights will be confirmed straight away. A moped has:
•a top design speed of no more than around 31 miles per hour (50 kilometres per hour)
•an engine up to 50 cubic centimetres (cc)

A CBT certificate confirming full moped rights on a full car licence lasts for the life of the licence. So, it's important that you keep your CBT certificate in a safe place.

So get yer feckin facts right!

Likewise. We used to pay about £20 tops between about four of us, ride them to destruction and then buy another. Pound for pound value wise we probably had more fun on them than anything else.
One favourite trick was getting someone who hadn't ridden one before to sit on one and rev it flat out whilst one of of us would stamp it into gear then jump out of the way quickly.

The front brakes were comically bad, anything over about 6mph and it was just like riding a pogo stick, the front end dropped/raised and sod all happened in the stopping stakes.
