What do you lot reckon to this? Common fault or just sheer bad luck?

Anybody else experienced this? This tigra was supposed to have 53k on the clock but I don't think it's the original engine. This is the 3rd case I've experienced and 2 of the 3 were my own car. Both happened around the 130k mark. This is on an X14XE.

A rod snapped, it's happened on 2 of my x14xe's and this 1 recently of a friends tigra! Same cylinder too! The engine still started up and ran even though it was only in 3 which is amazing really!

They are really good engines. The ones I had took some serious abuse! 600-700 miles a week I'd do in mine faultlessly... Until this happened!

Could be just bad luck dude.....I went through 3 turbos on my old RS...then sold the bugger on and its still on the last turbo fitted...the car hated me...lol.

yeah excellent engines mate....cant speak for you lot on here but im yet to see a x14xe with much more then 150k gen miles on the clock. they all seem to throw a rod or just explode but i think thats down to some owner in the past boucing it off the limiter all night in a mc Dees car park...... and aye mines had a hard life. VX manifold str8 thru exhaust, tweaked ecu often reved to 8k rpm, was serviced all the time though and always had fully synth oil in it.... 4 years of my abuse and its as tight as the day i bought her

I will get some on when I have time. The lass who owns the car wants the replacement engine part rebuilding with new gaskets and timing belt so that will have to be done first. I'll strip that x14xe down as sell the parts so I'll get pics on then. Cheers

Probably... we might see in the pics.. if there's signs of overheating then it's probably oiling, catastrophic bolt/cap/rod failure is usually fatigue from overstressing the rod through revs though.
