1 owner, 98k mile FSH Mk3 Cav SRi. Really clean except for the complete absence of metal in the rear arches which I'll have sorted. Ideal to keep me occupied over winter while the Mk2 is tucked away from the salt.

Anyone know the easist way to tell if its an NE or SEH in there?

I know the seh was no good for emissions, and not used on 4x4 - anyone know why, would think want the more power with 4x4 to lug around. I know NE was very torquey, had a few.

I know for a fact that in 1990 you could get the SRi with both engines. One was the SRi with 130bhp and the other was the SRi 'cat' which had 115bhp. Mine is 89 model year so not sure on that one. I know F all about 8v's, Ive always had 16v's since I was 19!

Yeah never understood that - guess 16 valve was sporty, NE the entry level easier to insure.

I nearly bought a Mk2 SRi 130 3 years ago, been laid up in a garage for 13 years. Guy decided not to sell it and wheeled it back in though!

I fitted one of my NE's with a CR box, preferred the WR as it had the torque to suit.

Very rarely see 130's advertised, not cheap either

as above, thought all preface g/h/j sris were SEH. does it come on cam a bit over 4k ish? iirc thats where my mates seh one had the gain over my NE.
possibly a different cam belt cover on a NE compared to an seh, but I cant remember which is which, even if thats true.

Has it got a lambda sensor? Or indeed, a cat?

Could look down plughole at top of piston see which it is.
I'd say 99.999% it's an ne.

Absolutely no doubt in my mind that its an SEH.

Should have the rounded cambelt cover (not square), As mentioned above, no lambda and most likely an F16CR box.

Good find, Had a few of these when i was younger.

Also bought a 72k white SRi130 SALOON when i was 17 for £60.

Clutch went miles from home so left it on the side of the road and got a lift home in the car in front which we'd just been to buy, (1988 Quattro which we thought was better ). Feel like crying about it now.

The ecu code would be a give away if its an seh or not mate. Id say it is

Ive just brought it home and its pretty much perfect. Looks like the only rust on it is the arches although I havent checked the sills yet. Boot floor, engine bay everywhere else its perfect. Interior is like new except for the hole in the driver sear as normal. I can get a good seat no problem. Even the original GM fit alarm works properly!

Goes really well, gearbox is tight and the engine very smooth. Brakes work really well and the only thing it needs is a service and either the PAS or Altenator belt tightening.

When I get some time in daylight tomorrow I'll have a good look over it.

Now all thats left to do is put the Mk2 away for winter. Cant face it yet though!

of course I was looking in the wrong place! I was looking at the block where it joins with the gearbox as Im used to XE/LET lumps!

just checked, clear as day 20SEH. Cheers all.

its a missconception that catalysts were only introduced when euro I tail pipe emmisions were introduced (july 1992), and enforced (1993)

vauxhall were already phasing them in 1990/1991
