    Corsa newb needs advice

hi on tuesday im going to look at a corsa b advertised for £700
im swapping it for my road legal quad
he says it has 165bhp and it has the 2.0ltr 8v engine from a calibra with an f20 gear box and 2.0ltr brakes with a powerflow exhaust and k&n air filter
iv got no idea what an f20 gear box is or what to expect performance wise from the 2.0ltr,he says they come with 150bhp standard
looks lowered and got black alloys
the body and paint work is abit tatty but it would be a winter project anyways,i dont mind cosmetic things i just dont know my way around an engine too well

just wondering what to look for when i look at the corsa
    thanks for any help

165bhp sounds like a pile of large hairy boll0cks to me. As standard the 20SEH from a Cavalier SRi 130 among others was stated as 130bhp. There are other 2.0 8v's that are less than that though.

Chances are that if the person selling is claiming that power he will know **** all about the car. Check the conversion is safe, wired correctly and not bodged. Check everything that he tells you is true.

    Hi dan,

the 2.0 16V C20XE engine got 150bhp and the f20 is standard performace gearbox. This engine could be swapped in a Corsa with some extra work...

This engine is solid good work.
98000 miles is a little .... if he drives it like a whoore... dont know

Me and some friends biuld one Corsa with 2.0 16v... this was awesome... one rainy day the lend Corsa was slipping in a curve and cossed a streed lamp no money no Corsa

    sorry 4 bad english

    Re: Corsa newb needs advice

as above the Calibra 8v engine is the 115bhp NE.

tbh you'd be better off in a standard Corsa 16XE rather than one that's been probably bodged by someone who is either a liar or they haven't got a clue what they are talking about.

the bloke says he doesnt know much about the engine apart from what the pervious owner told him that it was a 2.0 8v from a calibra running 165bhp with a k&n and fowerflow exhaust

if he is saying its 165bhp he must have a dyno print out...if not is pub talk.

golden rule is if it sounds to good to be true and any fraction of doubt....walk away and save your money.

It'll feel flat as a fart because the 8v engines don't put out much power. It's not 165bhp, unless it has throttle bodies or something fruity going on under the bonnet. If all the proof you've got that the engine has 165bhp is that it has a powerflow exhaust and a cotton filter, then assume it has 115bhp and test drive accordingly.

As already said, you'd be better off buying a Corsa sport or GSI with a 1.6 16v engine. It'll be lighter, faster, and cheaper to insure as you're not insuring a modified car.

If its the c20ne with 115bhp ... he got a lot more to do than a k&n kit + "Power flow" Exhaust... to get 160 bhp ! if its the c20xe it could be.

If u are interessted in this car, ask him for details about the engine and tell it here .

    Re: Corsa newb needs advice

The insurance is null and void if the car is in any way different from what they have on their books.

You hit Mr. Angry's Audi and he wants £4000 to replace his bumper. It doesn't matter, £4000 is pocket change, right? It's only a bit of plastic and paint.

But what if you hit Poor Little Penny when she runs across the road to hug her daddy? She runs out in front of your one litre Corsa, and you paralyze her from the waist down. Little Penny's mum wants £2 million in compensation for ruining her daughters life, and just for good measure, Little Penny's Big Scary-Ass Dad is an ex-para, and he comes round and makes sure you never drive anything else ever again.

All of a sudden insurance doesn't seem such a bad idea, does it?

Don't be a bellend, it won't get you many fans on here.

It doesn't matter. It only takes two seconds of not concentrating to have an accident. Even if you have an accident and it's the other persons fault, you will still get shafted. Why? Because instead of Mr. Audi's Massive Insurance Company talking to Dan The Man's Insurance Company, Mr. Audi's insurance has to talk directly to poor little Dan. Dan doesn't know the ins and outs of insurance. He doesn't know that Glass' guide is 13% below actual market value, and poor little Dan gets shafted.

Honestly, and I think I speak for everyone on here, I hope you crash it, and I hope Plod turn it into a lovely little cube and plop it outside your house. Then it can't hurt anyone.

you might not have one but if ome one hits you then your in the poo as you should not be on the road, you can be the best driver in the world, but it only takes one other person to hit you and guess what..you will get done even if its not your fault.

not worth the risk at all...
