Horror! BMW X5 Side Mirrors Stolen twice in a week

A cousin bought one of these X5 and within a few weeks, had his both side mirrors stolen, he got new ones paid for by his insurance and two days later to his horror, they were gone again,

These are hugely expensive, cosing £1200 plus from the dealers for both sides, what a pitty the BMW did not give any thought on its mounting security, they are so easy to get lifted, all you need is prise open the bottom plastic cap, unsecrew 4 tiny self tapers, no longer than about 20mm size 6! and the mirror assembly comes off its pivioted bracket, and worst of all the thieves cut off the cable as BMW's poor thoughts in its design by not using a connector system of any kind at the mirror end, so that means upon replacing a new mirror you have to then remove the door cards to access the inner side of the cable as the connector is inside the door end!

let me know if you have heard of similar experiences with anyone on such matter.

Mercs are the same, although they can only be accessed when in folded in mode. Luckily most people do this to ironically save there mirrors!

He took his car to a friend who runs a garage, and he forwarded him to another Windscreen garage, where the bottom part o0f the mirror housing from where the screws are accessed has now been filled with some strong rubbery gunge, bit like silicone, I think its been filled with the stuff the screens are joined, and it will harden enough such that the screws can no longer be accessed, I also suggested to him to fill this hollow chamber with body filler and no one could ever get to it again. Simple solution and it would pleasantly surprprise any future culprits.

BMW's poor thoughts in its design by not using a connector system of any kind at the mirror end, so that means upon replacing a new mirror you have to then remove the door cards to access the inner side of the cable as the connector is inside the door end!

that sounds familiar (1980s/1990s vauxhalls) twice i came outside to find my wing mirror missing and a snipped loom poking out the exposed hole in the door

dont even the need a screw driver, just a bit of extra gravity and they are dangling on the cable

Best bet is to scan ebay for the next few weeks putting - distance - nearest first.

They'l probably pop up, And then sell for around £300 each,,, which they do.

Always at least one set of corsa SRi mirrors on there too. "No base plates and wires cut"

OK, so the correct proceedure is to round to see them, ask some tricky questions and then beat the **** out of them for being thieving chavs - correct?
Remember, if it weren't for the accomplices after the fact buying these stolen mirrors, etc, there'd be no market and thus no reason for these turds to steal them!
