I dare any of you to tell me you wouldn't let this upstanding young citizen slob on your knob like corn on the cob.
Had a trip down to s'oton IKEA today with my other half. Dressed nice with no tools etc.... But couldnt resist a trip to a breakers about 5 miles away. Ended up finding these two.
Any c20xe is a rare find these days..... But it was a dispack on 148k so let my sensible head take over and left it there.
Then the irmscher kitted corsa B. Needless to say i relieved it of its kit. Led on the floor on top of its parcel shelf trying not to get dirty, managed to get it all off with just the phillips screwdriver and a massive adjustable i had in my doorpocket to get the five 8mm bolts.
Not a bad day off really, as the profit from the irmscher kit will pay for the spending spree in IKEA
Benn, Dan, Pete etc..... the XE is in silverlakes if you hadn't already guessed.....
Oooooooooooooo might be worth a trip...

Definately is.... I couldnt think of a single part which i could buy and sell for a good profit on it so left it be.
Should have taken the exhaust cam sensor / blank really though and forgot to check if the head was coscast or not.
(99% not likely though unless its been replaced).
Good luck
i found the majority of the heads on my coil pack xe's were coscast? but like you say craig have probably been replaced at some point

is there REALLY that much difference between early/late xe's with regards to over all strength?

No

i didnt think there was frisco, i thoguth the difference was earlys had mahle pistons coscast heads different guides mech ignition and smaller fly wheel and the later was not as good pistons with smaller guides inlet ports

Yes
Very earlys had a stronger, lighter crank, Lighter flywheel, Forged pistons, coscast head, No Lambda, better management.
Lates are of course heavy crank (still strong), Heavy flywheel, cast pistons, Gm head, more of an emphasis on emmisions and drivability.
All those changes added up to a very different engine.
Plus i look at it from a money point of view. Breaking a dispack engine you will be lucky to break even. But breaking an early 20xe will net well over £500.
The heavier crank came in long before dispack and there is no evidence of it being weaker. Yes the material used was of a lower quality which is why they put more material in the crank, they kept the strength at the expence of weight.
The change in pistons also came in on the dizzy engines most C20XEs will have the cast pistons so that covers pretty much everything after 88 GTEs.
Plenty of dizzy engines came with GM heads.
The dispack motronic 2.8 is a much better management system so I dont know where you got that from.
Yes all the changes do add up to a different engine but most of the ones you mention came in on the dizzy C20 engines
I didnt say dizzy did i? I said "very early". I also never said the crank was weak, actually said the opposite if you look.
Your completely right. Anything other than 88 Gte and some 90 calibra's those parts were phased in long before motronic 2.8
Your forgetting my comment of "chocolate engine" wasnt because i wanted to buy it and drive it for 100k. It was because the parts on it are worth a lot less money therefore making it non viable from a resale point of view. The whole reason im in these scrap yards day in day out is to make money, and stripping a dispack XE and breaking it for parts isnt going to pay the bills.
I wasn't replying to your comment though. I was answering the "is there REALLY that much difference between early/late xe's with regards to over all strength?" question which unless its a really early 88 gte engine is no and even with a late engine they still produced 150odd bhp for well over 150k if maintained properly so they are hardly weak
Fair point. Overlooked the "strength" post and just answered "is there much difference"
To be fair though despite both making 150bhp-ish, from a performance point of view they are worlds apart. An 88 XE and a 93 XE really shouldnt be compared just because they have a similar engine code
And of course from a resale point of view, again, worlds apart
dizzyless ones are preffered by the RWD crew though, fits better against the bulkhead.
the dizzy setup can be used on an early engine tho which i think is the best idea, had loads of these now dizzy and coilpacks id say the coilpack setup is more reliable than the dizzy

It was crap, They must have spent a fortune on those racks, but even when you got away with climbing on the inside of them you couldnt open the door!
Much better how it is now. The only downside is they dont tend to change around whats in the middle as its harder to get to
Been out today and had a cracking day. Got loads of stuff to sell so il be taking some time off now. Worked out on my way home that i removed 156 bolts and 48 pieces of trim! My fingers are killing.
Found this...... and was sooooo tempted to make an offer on it. Got a nice c16xe out in the shed which should fit in the back! I still might!
Then this pile of engines..... Points available for anyone who spots anything unusual.....
This Escort GTi made me laugh..... So ironic that he now cant push it even if he wants too.....
And finally this. It came in just as i was leaving at about 4:30. Im hoping i can have it cheap as i get on really well with the owner. Its on 150k and the gearbox is knackered, But i reckon it would be a good car for very little money. Plus the xenon headlights are worth what il be paying for it so its win win really even if i break it.

Xe engine far side of the pile.Do i get points?
