Buy a car, service the engine gear box and diff first, strip the rear, don't waist money on buckets and stuff just yet till you can drift it both left and right.

DONT buy a 200sx S13 unless its got an SR20 in it, if its a CA18 you will constantly be changing engines, they are just too fragile.

A good starter car is the E30 BMW, even a 318 will drift well.

Not true, a looked after CA18DET is a good engine indeed. Bare in mind that a 6 cyl Skyline lump is more or less a CA18DET with 2 extra cylinders attached.

    Depending on useage:

    Tramp drifting:

    Bimmer E30 6cyl/E36 6cyl
    MK2 Supra
    Sierra
    Volvo 3-something
    Old Omega (manual)

    Proper drifting:

Pretty much the same as above really just with better engines/better nick. Power isn't everything By the way, its got a lot to do with it, but not everything, seen someone drift an old Carlton & a sierra 1.6 at matchams. Someone actually had a Scorpio!!

maybe wait until your actually old enough to drive before wasting money on a car which you cant drive for at least 2 years and save more money for something decent

    Re: Decent Drift car?

S13 is easy to get hold of, ebay is your friend.

However Mr. Pot is right, for £1000 you WILL end up with a smoky old dog. There are lots of Autos out there too.

Also why drop the limiter to 1000rpm!? Then you will end up with NO power at all, you do realize that tickover is 750-900rpm right?? iirc it redlines at 7k, but not been in an S13 in years so may well not be.

If you REALLY want to do drifting your best bet is an old Sierra with the tyres pumped up far too high! that will get your eye in and it wont matter if you use the wall to turn corners. Then you can go off to somewhere like Matchams that allow tramp drifting.

Not only that but Rob is also right, by what I have read you dont seem to know much about cars/driving........... I would learn the basics first.

    Re: Decent Drift car?

ive had about 20 rwd cars and to be honest your 1k isnt going to go far ... a great car would be an omega 2.0 16v strip it to the balls weld the diff and cut the springs ...stick a stright pipe on her and it will go and do what you need for about that money.

e30's are also a good tramp car but they are getting harder to get in decent condition and prices arnt that cheap either.

s13's after owning 7 of them in all different forms (silvias,180sx ,200sx) are an excellent car the ca18det engine is a great engine i built a stage 3 hd car and its still going strong 6 years on @17psi of boost so they are far from a weak engine, the biggest problem is there age and service history ...but dont be fooled the sr20det engines do big end bearing as much as the ca's do and also snap rocker arms so they arnt with out major faults either but because they have more punch out of the box and are a lot eaiser to get parts for people tend to go with theses ...personally ..2jz FTW!!!!

Not true? Thats why I went through 5 engines in a year in my last car, 4 I bought in and one I had rebuilt, non of them lasted, either suffering HG failure or bottom end failure. Weak engines imo

He would be better off withet the BMW, alot more robust.

Have a look at this thread on cliosport. That car might be open to offers...

Welded diff, cant use it on road but its perfect for drifting. You might have some change left over to buy a stockpile of tyres lol

    Re: Decent Drift car?

where are you planning on drifting it initially?

if its round a field, you wont need much power, just put some offroad suitable tyres on a 2.0 omega and weld the diff, will cost you peanuts.
