Lift your wiper blades in the morning

Just responded to a thread over on VxON where it looks like a wiper arm has been bent due to turning on the wipers when the blades are frozen to the screen and I thought it might be worth repeating here.

It is going to be very cold, down to -10 in places, tonight so there is a real risk of freezing blades.

Just remember to lift them off the screen to free them before you get in the car!

It is so easy to do and it can avoid a nasty little problem.

Thought every one done this ... you can also damage the rubber part of the blades with only a small amount of ice .

Just pour cold water on them or mildly warm. Anything above 0 degree would do surely. I never bother with scraping or deicer, the 4 years I been driving nothing has happened to my screen.

Warm tap water every time. Wouldn't never use "de-icer" or scrape them. Warm water will unfrezze the wipers and warm the rubber up too.

Been using house warm water for 20+ years, and if you don't check your wiper are not frozen, before using them, are you old enough to drive

Whats peoples beef against de icer? does it degrade the rubber or the paint or something. Not a drama for me and my heated front windscreen foci

I can cause issues to your paint work

I start the car up and then scrape. No need to worry about the wipers then as that part has always defrosted due to teh blowers going.

Warm water is always good though.
Please ensure all events queries are pm'd in my direction. Please be patient and i will get back to you very soon.

Heated screens in FORDs rule, it has to be said.

Whilst other people scrape & defrost with hot water, you just get in, buckle up, find a radio station, wipe away the defrosted frost & drive off. So cool.

exactly this...if you lift a wiper off a frozen screen then you might rip the rubber blade off the arm itself

Re: Lift your wiper blades in the morning

Salt from the road also affects the blades as well as ice, bit of a tip, warm warter with some lemon juice (jif lemon is fine) softens the rubber blades up.

i used warm water tonight, all good no problems.

Had the wipers on driving, hit the brakes and all the snow on the roof came down the windscreen. Wiper came down on to it and sat about 6 inches from where it should stop. anyway now its foobared, need to have a look at it tomorrow as its too cold to get the spanners out just now lmao lmao
