That's the price youngsters pay now, feel sorry for them.
Pass plus helps i believe.
Pass plus takes off maybe 5/10%. Any car for a 17 year old to insure is high. £1000 +
Gagging For Boost =(
Sometimes adding an older (lower risk) driver as a named driver on the policy will bring it down a bit - depends on the insurer. (Not to be confused with fronting, which is declaring the main driver as someone low risk then putting your son on as a named driver - this voids the policy, making it illegal)
I find the system on Money Saving Expert works well for getting a good quote - Link
The best way to reduce car insurance costs is quite obviously to lower the risk so low power, low insurance group car for the first couple of years.
Look at "special" young driver policies as well, (google, and ring round for specialist brokers and insurers) but some may promise savings but deliver little.
Sadly you pay the money at the sat, if your careful over time you'll build up ncb and that's when it gets cheaper..
I'm louder than gods own revolver and twice as shiney.
if you drive you could ad him to your insurance what car is he trying to get insurance for ?
no but if he stays on his daddys insurance till hes 21 it will be a little cheaper . lol
i think direct line give ncb to named drivers not 100% sure on that though
all i got for christmas was a sweater
i wanted a moaner or a screamer
His policy you as named driver,or mother sometimes cheaper is the way to go,do a search go compare or whats that terrible advert
please let him be careful other drivers can be a real risk
my mums a named driver on mine it put it down by a few 100 pounds and im 17![]()

What Grim said, easily £2000+ for named drivers esp at 17. Its best to bite the bullet now, even at 21 it won't be much cheaper, even on a 1.0 basic spec.
Could always get a bike as a run around, until he finds a car or good quote. Cheap as chips to service and run and fun.
nearly 3.5k for a golf gti when i was 18 as my first insured carwas only 200 quid more than a corsa/nova

at 19 i got the tank, 2.5k with 1nbc, then lost nbc and paid another 2.5k lmao![]()
now at 21 its still nearly 2klmao *sigh*

Is it that bad now?
I had a 106 S1 Rallye, as my first car, and paid less than a grandlmao
'power makes you faster down the straights, lightness makes you faster everywhere' mr c chapman.
well, I used to drive since I got my license, 5 years ago, but it was back home in Latvia, on parents car, so didn't had NCB's even there, when I bought my tiggy here, I got on gocompare, and found the three cheapest insurers, for me, having 5 year NCB's comparing with no NCB's, contacted them, and told them my story, It really helped, 'cos I am working at Europcar as an exec driver for more then a year as well, so I have fully comp for £400, for 2.0 engine tiggy.
The only option for 17 y.o. to get a cheap insurance, is to get a brand new Yaris, Corsa 1.0 or C1/Aygo/107, they have 1st year first car free insurance. so you can get your first NCB without paying with bag full of gold.
Otherwise, named driver for couple of years
k3rja drivin' a l3xus :)
you have to pay a small pot of gold for a brand new car for a person who has never been on the road anyway, you WILL end up having some small amount of damage, whethere you bump into a hedge when reverse parking or have someone go into you...new drivers are better off getting an older car and insuring it...it works out cheaper if not the same atleast, as buying a brand new car for free insurance
