    yes

as long as the insurance is valid on the day the new tax disc comes into force you are ok.

Another thing is if you applied for a new license/tax disc before the expiry of the old one, i.e. on the last few days of the month , you will not be committing an offence if you are unable to display the new disc for up to 5 working days, during the next month, this caters for any postal delays and so on! this is a new change, but you are not allowed the 5 days if you renewed it during the next month so effectively you will be breaking the law as either a new disc should have been ordered on line before the expiry of the old one or a Sorn declared before the expiry of your old disc.

Failing to SORN or Renew a tax disc before the expiry of the old one constitutes an offence even if your vehicle was off road. So if I were you i would remove the car off the road and declare SORN on line before the expiry of your current disc or just renew it before you get into November.

You will be OK as long as you have applied for a new Tax online or by phone before the end of 31st October. Even on the day itself since you are covered up to 31st October Midnight from the DVLA point of view, and then you will have 5 working days by which time you will hopefully get your road tax in the post and you could drive your car without showing a tax for up to 5 working days, and insurance is another matter, you won't get an automatic fine for not renewing your insurance but no one is going to turn up at your door step to take a picture of your car being left on a road (not driven though) without an insurance in force.

But yes I certainly would not drive a car without insurance as you now risk it getting impounded and crushed and fined and points on your license. But why crush a car? it wasn't the car's fault!
