Save up and get more choices...........or get the 1.8 zetec Focus i'd say.

If you go for summit older you'll get more choice and more performance - but I suppose it's a company car thing or summit?

What about an Astra then? If not stick with the griffin, you know it makes sense. Not sure too many people would accept a f#*d owner on here

Well I don't care what make a car is, I make my choice solely on the car itself, and i'd prefer a Focus over a Corsa, just - Focuses appear to be pretty moddable, and fairly good motors - and I hate Corsas.

Fair enough. I just have a thing against fords and french cars, so you can rule out the renault as well!! I have to admit that just about everything I've heard about the focus is good/reasonable, but it's a ford. Having only driven the new astra and the new golf in this class then I can't say for myself. Only the golf was slow and soft and the astra was soo much better than it.

I wasn't running the vauxhall down(wouldn't dream of it) If anything I was giving it a cheer. I was genuinley impressed with the new astra. The golf on the other hand was being run down(yet again) coz it's tosh. Oh and the astra I drove was a 1.8 and it was rather speedy, god knows what the 2.2i must be like.

    BMWs mostly..

    Lightbulb

I think you need to find more cars. I wouldn't touch the new corsa. The Focus is the more solid but the day i drive another Ford is the day all my decision making abilities have been removed.

Why not a smaller engined Jap car for the 'refinements'. Servicing and parts are more but they wont go wrong as often. I'd go jap for my next car.

you name another car with the same toys as the 1.8 zetec same performance, same size same insurance group and around the same price £7500 with either the same or more credability then i will consider it.

Cracks me up all this xenophobia type thing against anything non-vauxhall - anyone would've thought all our Vauxhalls are trouble free and the best thing ever built. I've had all sorts of make of car, from ford to fiat, renault, lots of vauxhalls, pug, VW - and driven most other makes - some are good, some bad - I won't buy a car solely on the basis that its made by a certain company - vauxhall or not.
That said, no probs at all with Gsi, and its a wicked motor, well quick and so far completely reliable - but handles badly - standard suspension is poo - my 205 gti handles much better, but has loads of faults.

    Rant, rant, rant, rant.........rant over

oh, and the vauxhall battery is cr@p

i must not slag off corsas anymore.... were all vauxhall owners after all!!!... any modified car should be given respect as the owner has obviously put time and effort in to it even if it dont look like it....

see tom im being a good boy now...

    surely not....

Acceptance of other car makers by MIG members

Ive never seen the like...nah just kidding.

From those three Id have to go for the Focus 1.8

Why not buy a Rover though, for £3000 u can have a 1.4 SEi(which outperforms the 1.8 Zetec), half leather interior, sports front seats, power steering etc etc.

Insurance group a bit higher at group 8 but still not exactly outrageuos, only costs me £550 fully comp in my own name at 21.

The Seat Ibiza Cupra Sport goes like **** off a shovel - I've sat in one and it was at least as fast as my Astra, plus not as bone-jarring a ride

Comes with having a Golf GTI engine without the overweight Golf body that normally comes with it I suppose.

The seat ibiza GTi is definately your most attractive proposal yet. From what I've heard it goes well, handles well, and stops well. But there is always room for improvement. What about a Jap then?

With the group 10 insurance limit the cupra sprt is off limits, the 8v one is group 11. the Ibiza GTi 2.0 is group 10 though, but not a Cupra Sport.

Though again I draw atention to a Rover, with an 8v Cupra sport being slower 0-60 than a slightly modded 1.4 Rover (ie mine) and a standard 2.0 Gti (non-cupra being slower than a standard 1.4 SEi) Then why does no-one acknowledge the Rover as a contender in the car stakes, it has an old man image for most, yet disporoves the image regularly.

Right then, I think it might be helpful if you gave us a price range and whatever else info might be handy. Group ten insurance is a start but, body style-hatch/saloon/supermini? From what I've read so far prolly a hot hatch. Company car or private?
