    Exclamation need a buyers guide to the mk4 astra sri.

    What to look out for, what spec and 0-60 of the 1.8, 20l, and 2.2. What is the handling like, and what goes wrong with them, cheers.

    A bit OT but it could help in future, how about a section where people can write and upload buyers guides for cars. Not like it would never get used. And perhaps when people find niggles then they can be added.

    so what do you suggest we do?

    Hold a gun to Migweb users and force them to reply or you learn to use the search and its results better?

    No just a simple point at the right thread post! I had a look, didn't really find anything! But whats the point in posting if you have nothing but sarcasm?

    just found this in tv, does it sound right to you? thought the 1.8 was 115 bhp?

    1.8 sri 123 bhp 0-60 8.5 year 2000
    2.0 sri 134 bhp 0-60 9.0??? year 1998
    2.2 sri 144 bhp 0-60 8.2 year 2000
    I thought the 1.8 was the slowest, not the 2l, and why if the 2l is more powerful is it slower?

    1) I'd take the figures with a pinch of salt.
    2) its only half a second.

    The early 1.8 SRIs upto 2000 (W) IIRC were 115 BHP, then they were given the Z18XE1 with 125BHP

    Out of interest what is the difference betweem the X18XE1 and Z18XE1 lump bar the power output, is a it a case of a vaux remap to 125 bhp or is it a completely different engine.

    Again, the 1.8 engine was 113 then 123 bhp.
    The on road difference is zero though.

    It was to do with the emissions...

    X = Euro 2
    Z = Euro 4

    The first digit of the code relates to the emissions regs the engine meets.

    Z = euro 4
    Y = euro 3
    X = euro 2
    C = euro 1

    Cars made before the emissions regulations have no letter at the start of the code.

    The next 2 digits are the capacity.

    For example, the 20 in C20 XE means 2 litre.

    The next letter is the compression ratio.

    G = 8 to 8.5:1
    L = 8.5 to 9:1
    N = 9 to 9.5:1
    S = 9.5 to 10:1
    X = 10 to 11.5:1
    Y = 11.5+:1

    The next digit relates to the fuelling.

    D = diesel
    E = multi-point injection
    Z = single-point injection
    V = carburettor

    Some engines have an extra code at the end, if they are different from normal

    For example:

    H = high output
    R = increase output
    T = turbo
    V = volume model

    So the same engine, but I'm guessing a different cat and EGR system?

    I'm not sure, probably the 2 cat thing some 1.8's have going on. Maybe.

    I know the Z20LET has a pre-cat and main cat...so that might go someway to explaining it.

    my "later" engined 1.8 has a close coupled cat, ie the cat is part of the exhaust manifold and the system bolts to the bottom of what would be the downpipe (but is the cat/manifold)

    The pre-cat is immediately after the manifold. Can't miss it...

    Your car will definitely have a main cat underneath.

    Stuck head under, from what i can see it only has the one cat and there is a very nice looking 4-2-1 manifold arrangement at the front although the manifold itself is very short.

    I suppose the easiest way to tell is if you have a lambda sticking out of the manifold heat shield at the front.
