    ive bought an mr2 turbo

Well ive been trawling the market over the last few weeks trying to find a decent manual s14a touring with low mileage but there has been nothing at all that has taken my fancy.

I will own another 200sx one day but i had to get a car this weekend as i only got a 14 day gap between cars with my insurance!

All is not lost though as when i was just about to give up i spotted a mint 40000 mile mr2 turbo forsale with loads and loads of history and all the right mods, i rang my insurance and even though its more than a payed on the 200sx i thought id give the owner a call.

I will admit i was a bit put off the idea of buying an import car but i decided to bite the bullet and if the car was as good as the owner said id buy it.

And so i went over to manchester yesterday and now its mine!

Its a jap import revision 3 turbo model which has more power and shares the same charged cooled 240bhp engine as the jap import st205 celica gt4, the revision 1 and 2 models are 200bhp and have the earlier intercooled engine!

Heres a spec of the car as its not standard and some pics form the forsale advert.

    1994 rev 3 mr2 turbo 40000 miles 2.0 16v turbo with LSD,

    Apexi gt cat back exhaust,
ARC trapped cold air filter system,
    Apexi power fc with commander,
Blitz variable boost controller set to 0.8bar,
    Blitz boost gauge,
    Greddy exhaust temp gauge,
    HKS turbo timer,
    Speed timer/1/4 mile timer,
    Short shifter,
    Racing adjustable front tie bars,
    Custco adjustable front strut brace,
    Tein springs,
Bulk head flex stopper for master cylinder.
Aftermarket alloys of some sort unknown make???

im not sure if the car has any other mods as it is possible it has as ive got a rolling road printout for 300ps and 39.5kgm torque which converts to 300bhp and 280lb/ft of torque and it certainly goes like **** off a shovel

nice car.i had a rev 3 with a few mods and it put out 280bhp.if you can get it of the line just right they go like stink and will really shove you back in the seat.all you need to do now is get a charge cooler fitted and up the boost to 1 bar.i was running mine at 1.2bar with an uprated i/c and it went quite well
98.9p/L why is diesel more epensive now

Nice. Get yourself on www.mr2oc.co.uk and www.imoc.co.uk

By what people say on those sites 300bhp is realistic without going mod daft

its got a charge cooler fitted as standard, so ive read you cant run more than 0.8bar on a standard turbo due to the turbines self destructing

but since buying the car ive found a RR printout in the history that the previous owner didnt even know about for 300bhp (although im not sure if my car is that much) so im guessing if it is 300bhp my turbo isnt standard? i need to do some inverstigating.

fensport do a stage 1 turbo with steel internals for £600 which can run 1.2bar with stock injectors etc which should see about 320bhp

what you will have is the ceramic shaft that is more fragile but will boost up quicker.mine hit a max boost of 1.6bar by mistake and was ok.it did go to 1.4bar quite a lot as the profec b boost controller i had played up.i ran mine at 1.2 bar for as long as i had it and took it up the strip a lot and drove the thing very hard and it did not miss a beat.1.2 bar is ok on the standard turbo.i use the imoc site and they were the ones who told me what i could do

thats fair enough then, ive joined both forums but im just waiting for my activation email from imoc.co.uk.

that will explain why mine has a printout for 300bhp then if it can be turned upto 1.2bar its currently running 0.8bar atm

at least you have the one with the better engine, same engine as my Celica, mine is internally standard but with a few chice mods its at 324bhp and 317lbft
the turbos are quite efficent up to about 1.2bar, after that they just super heat the air, get yourself a 205 chargecooler set up as it will will be miles better than the stock wmic

They don't have a chargecooler as standard.

My mate has a fairly high spec rev 3, running a massive turbo, apexi PFC etc. Going for boot mounted intercooler next as he has a triple core one in the standard position but its still not good enough.

Agreed they look awful. Thought they were standard fit on MR2 Turbos though. My mum's partner had a turbo on import a few years ago and had one on. Just assumed they were standard fit.
