You can not claim for traveling to or from a regular place of work. If you travel directly from home to a job off-site you should claim for either the distance from your home to the job-site or from a regular place of work to the job site, whichever is the shorter of the two.
Similarly you can claim relief on parking at the job site, but not at your regular place of work.

My company operate a Car Ownership Scheme rather than a company car. Means we don't get taxed for having a company car but the company pay for the majority of it. I pay a contribution each month for my choice of car. The minimum contribution is £10/month iirc.
So I got a 1.9 CDTI Astra SRI with all the extras I could get. I pay £120 a month and get 10p a mile for business mileage. And I too think the mileage rate needs addressing in the current price situation for diesel. In NZ diesel is cheaper than petrol. Why is it different here?
In the big scheme of things, are we insignificant?
tax!
Derv used to be cheaper than petrol, but once it's popularity rose the government upped the tax!
Well i spoke to the company and still no joy. They won't do anything for me. The only thing i can do is try and claim it back of the government at the end of each financial year! but i need to keep logs of fuel cost at the time, MPG of the car and all sorts so i can actually prove that it is costing me more.
Not really an acceptable solution for me!
I worked out that over the course of an average year i will loose about £500 - £600!
Bit bummed, but i am going to ask for a fat payrise to try and offset this!
I have a similar issue, i get 10p per mile, however i get a brandnew Passat, no service or insurance costs or maintenance and my tax over the year adds up to about 29quid per month.....cant complain really
Not true, the duty is the same, 48.35p a litre, the VAT is the same at 17.5% The difference in price is down to supply and demand. As the demand for diesel round the world has climbed rapidly the supply initally failed to keep up. This intially increased deisel prices.
That was when diesel was the low end of road fuel, then it was about 12p a litre cheaper than petrol. Now petrol is the low end the increased supply of diesel has caused a surplus of petrol and the prices have changed accordingly.

I pay £36 a month for a company car; 3 year old golf TDi.
Put all my derv on a fuel card, and pay back my personal mileage accordingly, which works out to be c. 0.11p per mile![]()

Wedding Photographer packages starting at just £500!!
I used to take a company car, but once we started getting taxed on it I gave it up. Worked out that buying and running the Omega works out at £25 a month cheaper than a Corsa SXi would have and its a damn site more practical/flexable.
Couldn't think of anything good to put in here.
The price of diesel dictates the price of everything else too. Everything we have has used diesel at some point....
