I think he means which engine? There are a number of diesel engines in the MK4. None were particularly good.

Depends what you want, the 1.7 DTI and later CDTI ECO4 Hatch get £35 road tax, and best economy.
2.0 DTI has best performance in UK spec £140 road tax after 2001, £185 before.

Best spec was 2.0 DTI CD or Elegance.
Eco4s were all LS spec.
Almost all could have Air con.

SOHC 16v? Can a 4 cylinder 16v have a single cam only? Never really paid much attention to the 2.0 DTis. Are they pushrod or something?
